I didn’t expect to make my own baby food. In fact, I thought people were crazy to do it. It’s so much work! And then you have to buy a thousand little containers! Well, thanks to big brand baby food companies not testing their food for heavy metals, here I am. I don’t trust any baby food manufacturers after a report that arsenic, lead, and other things that have no business in baby food are found in large quantities in commercially available baby food.I’ve seen these in a lot of instant pot egg bite recipes and people rave about them. I figured why not, if I don’t like them for baby food maybe I can use them for cake pops or mini cheesecakes.I went about peeling, de-seeding and chopping apples. Lord that took a lot longer than I wanted. I pressure cooked them, blended them, and let them cool. Finally I spooned the blended apples into the cute little round sections. The silicone is sturdy so it was easy to use a spatula to perfectly level off the portions and clean in between the holes. Then I placed the top which clamps on to the silicone extremely well. I put the tray in the freezer and left it overnight. The next morning I was happy to find no mess in the freezer (I’d put the tray in a ziplock bag because cleaning a freezer is just not on my to do list) and the top was still firmly attached. I removed the top, popped out the little cylinders of frozen applesauce into another ziplock, and rinsed the top and tray with warm water. It was THAT EASY. This silicone container tray has been a really handy tool to have when you make your baby’s food.It can be freeze or heated making this very versatile. Not only can you use this for baby food, this works well to freeze soup, leftovers, etc and great for baking.The silicone material is study but flexible and the lid is easy to get on and off.It’s easy to pop out food after it’s been frozen and this lays perfectly in the freezer.When you take the trays out of the packaging, it does have a smell to it. I washed them thoroughly and let it sit out for several days before using.I went with the two tray option and the price is affordable, basically $10 for each tray which is not bad since you can use it in many different ways! This silicone set feels nice and sturdy even when filled with liquid or food. The spaces in-between are reinforced. These make big ice cubes. These are good for making gelatin or agar agar based desserts (which is what I intend on using this set for). The lid stays on securely, there's a tab that fits over each compartment. They are easy to wash. They do have a strong odor initially when you take them out of the plastic packaging. I had to let it air out for days and wash them thoroughly before first use. I haven't tried baking in these yet but these would be good to make muffins, egg cups, etc. You could also just use this to place a variety of snacks, nuts, candies, cheeses etc for use when you just want a variety of snacking options. I wish the lid was firm and not floppy, but other than that, I am very happy with these. They do not have any bitter taste from the silicon. I turn them on their sides in the dishwasher on the top rack and that helps them to drain and dry quickly. Read more
