This is my 4th safety razor. I started with a vintage Lady Gillette, then moved to an Edwin Jagger (great, but didn't have the butterfly open, which I think is a necessity for women who shave in the shower). My last one was a cheaper pink one with a butterfly open, and worked great until I dropped it in the shower and it didn't line up correctly anymore. As a woman who uses a safety razor, my must-haves are a butterfly open and a long handle.I wasn't expecting too much from this one, but it was pretty and met my criteria. It actually is amazing. I am used to getting some nicks every once in a while, because I shave against the grain, in the shower, and sometimes I rush (let's face it, if women took as long to shave their legs as men do with their faces, it would take us forever). One part of my calf is also very sensitive and usually gets razor burn, no matter what I do. But I can be quick and pretty careless with this razor and I haven't gotten a nick yet, and no razor burn. I don't know if it's less aggressive or what, because I'm using the same blades as I used in other razors. Whatever it is, I support it! Read more
Update this is my second Weishi razor. In the spirit of full disclosure I purchased a razor in between these two. Worse idea ever. You can see from my original post that I loved this brand. It's a smooth open and close action that doesn't stick or freeze. Unlike the "other" one. The reason why I even bought a second razor at all was because I loved the feel of my skin and how close the shave was on my legs, that I wanted to ditch the disposable heads for my under arms too. However, the "other" brand was jerky in its opening and closing, occasionally freezing midway and needing to be fully reopened then slowly closed. Every blade brand, every blade position, my arms were blistered and raw. So I moved out to my bath and my Weishi to my shower. Even after returning to my shaving cream, and preferred blades my legs razor burned and raw. Every time. And after trying and trying and trying some more, I've given up and done what u should have done in the very beginning. Bought another Weishi. Looking forward to no longer having red, raw and blistered legs. This is the first safety razor I've purchased for myself. My husband has one and loves it. And after considerable thought I decided to take thr plunge and get one for me. I chose to get this one on account of the price mostly. I didn't want to invest in a great deal but I didn't want something breaking first time out either. This seemed to check all the boxes. The ice cream was the fact it was purple, at which point it just seemed meant to be!First things first, I don't know about other women but I shave against the grain. I tried going with but I'd need about another 4" in arm length to pull that off. Take your time, ladies, don't press the blade (even though after a half lifetime or more of disposable razors saying otherwise) just let the razor's weight do the work for you.Secondly, take the time to really enjoy your shave. Run a bath, a blistering hot, take time for you bath. I'm a tall lady at 5'9". It took me about an hour to shave. But, I didn't nick myself once. After everything I read about shaving against the grain I fully expected to come out looking like the victim in an 80s slasher flick. Treat this as another aspect of your beauty regiment.Third, I splurged and bought a nice shaving cream. Not the canned stuff, but the thick, rich, lather it yourself in a bowl shaving cream. Perhaps it's placebo but my legs have never felt softer or silkier. I look forward to seeing what continued uses does! Read more
I was iffy about buying this because I heard horror stories. NOT THE CASE! I shaved my armpits for the first time with it today and I got the smoothest shave ever. I exfoliated and using castille soap for "shaving cream". it was soooo easy to use. very sharp. def don't need to press down like normal plastic razors. I just watched a tutorial video before i braved it. Definitely take your time because it's sharp but highly recommend this product. I intend to use it on every other part of my body as well. Did you know that mult-billion tons of disposable razors end up in landfills with all their nasty plasticness each year? did you know it takes 450-1000 years for those bastids to break down, then they leech nasty chemicals into the water and soil? Yeah neither did I. I mean most people don't because we don't really contemplate those issues when it comes to our every day items.Once I found out, I decided I needed to change my game. Enter, the double-sided safety razor. This one is a holographic beauty with some weight to it. The shave was super close (ahem, careful of bumps, moles, and/or skin tags--I sliced a mole right off) and I had to use a much gentler hand than with a disposable. Add in my DIY shave soap, a brush a bowl for a good lather and it's a great shave that lasted me almost a week (and I have fast growing, dark hair).Highly recommended for anyone wanting to be more eco-friendly or anyone who wants a fun looking, very good safety razor. It's my first razor of this kind so I have nothing to compare it to. I purchased it because people were saying it was more sustainable than plastic razors and also because I got tired of paying nearly 40$ for 4 cartridges of blades that barely last.I only used it once but I can already tell it's well invested money; my legs have never felt this smooth in a while, it's also awesome for the bikini area since it gives you a closer shave. You do have to be carefull not to get cut but it was much easyer that I would have expected! The color is stuning, I really love it. The razor also have a nice heavy weight which makes it feel more expenssive, it's small enought for travels. Also it arrived within 24 hours after ordering which I'm so happy about! Read more
Received this beautiful razor yesterday and it actually surpassed my expectations. The pictures in the listing really didn’t do it justice! It feels solid in hand, has a great handle length for use in the shower and it kept the blade steadily in place resulting in an easy, smooth shave. I used an Astra Superior Premium Platinum blade and was very happy with the result. I’m very pleased to be able to kick the expensive and wasteful plastic cartridge razor habit with the bonus of having such a beautiful tool that is so easy to use. I really hope it stands the test of time. Being my first DE razor I have no idea how it compares to any of the others out there, but if it continues to perform this well, I likely won’t ever feel the need to shell out the cash for anything more expensive. There was a little bit of a learning curve, you have to retrain your brain from pushing down on the razor and instead just letting the weight of the handle do the work.Other than that I absolutely love it! A way closer shave than my old 5 blade, and the hair grows back softer, so it didn't feel scratchy after one day. I shave maybe twice a week now instead of every day.And the cost you save on razors alone make this worth the switch. I00 razors for under $11. Since safety razors are universal you can buy any brand of refills you like. Read more
My first and only razor before this was an Edwin Jagger so I can only compare it to that. Price wise it is more than half my Jagger. However, I love the long handle with the textured handle for shaving in the shower. This is a great entry level razor for women. The rainbow color is a plus as I find most safety razors are designed for men, which is understandable. It fits the blades well and I don't have any issue with angle or alignment with mine. This is from China and cheap so there will be ones that have problems. You can't really fully compare quality to the more expensive German razors. It gave me a very smooth shave in the shower and I used the weishii blades that came with it. I usually use Aster Blades for a quality shave. Weight is good in the hand for leg and arm shaving. I will have to update this later to talk about how it holds up over time as I've only had it a couple of days. I had my Jagger for 6 years before I dropped and broke it. Time will tell how long this holds up.There is a small brush that came with it. I'm assuming it if for cleaning the head time to time. This is my first butterfly opening so I'm not sure what to expect cleaning wise for the brush. Read more
The media could not be loaded. Nice long handle making it easy to hold and not slip out of your hands in the shower, especially when you have to do your legs. The blades it comes with are not my favourite so I went out and bought some feather blades. The butterfly opening is nice and easy to switch new blades out. There was a bit of a defect on the bottom of mine where the colour was not put and the silver or the razor shows though but this doesn’t matter to me. It isn’t a colour changing paint, it’s painted one colour one way and another the other to get the look. Read more
