Originally our pediatrician recommended this lotion based on her dermatologist colleagues reviews. Because our little guy was going through some uncomfortable eczema flare ups on his face and arms we were willing to try any relief at that point.The initial use was super effective- it added a nice moisturizing layer that seemed to soothe his skin almost immediately. We loved it until we started reading the ingredient list and noticed that it contained something called BHT.Going down the google rabbit hold you'll see that this is found mostly in stuff like cereals, lipsticks etc because its a food preservative. Basically it prevents the chemical bond in fats and oils from transforming into different chemicals which may have foul smells when it comes it contact with oxygen. Bottom line - it's kind if scary. But I guess anything synthetic is really.Anyhow the FDA deems this product as generally safe but the National Institute of Health says its reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen. Wow! I wasn't ready to start taking our chances no matter how low the dose of BHT was or how beautifully it worked on his skin.Needless to say we made the decision to return and started treating it with coconut oil. This is THE BEST and only lotion I can use on my son that has many food allergies and skin sensitive. It doesn’t sting on open eczema cuts and raw skin. It’s soothing and effective. We have been using for 5 year’s now. No issues and in the past we have uses many other brands(countless, 20 different ones recommended ones in all price ranges). We’ve tossed all other away and only buy Vanicream. It last long. My son has reactive skin to lotions and sunblocks. He will break out in hives with some lotions due to the ingredients and plants used. He also has grass allergies so lots of plant or nut butter oiled based lotions trigger a reaction. This has significantly improved my 3 year old eczema. He had a bad flair for about 2 months and non of our go-to products were helping. The flair was on his face right near his eye so we did not want to use the prescription steroid creams. Fortunately we stumbled upon this brand and after the first application we noticed a difference. A few days later only a few small spots of eczema were left. We put it on him once or twice a day, usually right after bath time while his skin is still slightly damp. We used no other products on his face and this really cleared up the eczema. I bought this because my sons pediatrician recommended it for the eczema he had on his face. I tried it a few times but every time I applied it to his face he would cry in a way that made it sound like it hurt so I stopped using it on his face and only on his body. The only thing I use on his face now is the balm called Egyptian Magic, and I only use it on areas where he has eczema breaking out and it helps make it disappear in 12-24 hours.
