There is no down side to protecting your teeth with a well made night guard. This is exactly the same appliance made by a dental lab and returned to the dentist for delivery. I was so excited about this product initially. What a great idea to cut out the expensive dentist part of the process. I even kind of had fun doing my own impressions. For the first week I thought that it was working great, but after two or three weeks I started having more and more jaw pain. In the end, because they don't custom fit it to your teeth it doesn't really hit the bottom teeth evenly. They do offer a free round of adjustments, which I did not end up taking advantage of. I've ordered a mouth guard from another company on Amazon before and it hurt my teeth so much that I couldn't use for more than a couple of hours. Instead of fixing it, they simply cut the mouth guard and said there was nothing they could do about it. I was a little skeptical when I ordered from Armor Guard but I'm glad I did. The instructions and Youtube video are not quite as clear as could be. You may have to discard excess mould material before making the impression. This is EXACTLY like my old expensive custom nightguard my dentist hard-sold me to get. I'm talking exactly identical fit, size, plastic texture. Except my old one was $800+ (even with insurance it was an eye-opening $136 out of pocket...), while for $99 on Amazon, I can get myself two.As to the ordering process, it's fairly simple but a little off-puttingly low-tech. The kit comes with computer printout instructions and ordering form, with a URL to YouTube video instructions. The video instructions don't quite match up to the written instructions in the kit, but it was close enough that I did the average between the two. The ordering selection options could have been more clear—I basically guessed at the material I wanted it to come in, since even the more detailed descriptions on the website were hard to visualize. But all in all, I was able to successfully follow their instructions, create my own mold, send it in, and receive two perfect custom professional-quality nightguards in the mail for a fraction of what my dentist charges.
