Based on past experience with pet gates and baby gates, I installed the MYPET Pet Gate to swing open instead of a static pressure-mount. One thing I like about this pet gate is the ability to choose whether it swings towards you or away from you. With simple two-hole axis brackets, you can easily switch directions without remounting the whole thing!I found it necessary to go by my own measurements instead of the instruction sheet when it came to spacing for drilling the pilot holes. For instance, I needed to hang the gate a little closer to the floor so rambunctious kittens can’t slip underneath the bottom of the gate. Using the bottom mount as a starting point, installing the gate was pretty straight-forward, which is a good thing. After putting the gate up in one doorway, I realized it would be better located in another doorway. That meant a second installation, but it went quite smoothly, with little to no frustration. Since I’m using this with kittens, the one thing I wish was different is the height. I’d like to see an optional, taller gate. I don't know the life of these gates. For now, I just secured with the pressure support option. Just bracing it between my railing and my siding of home, closing off the stairway of my deck. I had to buy 2 because there are two entrances/exits. Having just put up yesterday and letting my pups run around the deck while I sat and watched was so exciting. I didn't have to have them on leash. They could run about the deck and I had no worry of them running off. I'll get to installing them more securely with the "swing" to open/close option when I have time. For now I wanted them to get use to being on the deck "hands-free". I can have my coffee, they can play. I can go in for a refill without having to take them inside with me.Our development doesn't allow us to keep dogs outside unattended, but this is also nice while I'm gardening, and they be still be outside, secured but free.I will admit, I bought the least expensive gate, as I needed two and didn't want to spend a fortune. I just wanted to close off the entrance ways, but also didn't like just using a barricade or pressure held gate. The convenience of this opening and closing without having to re-align each time really relieves the stress one may have having two active puppies, or even grown dogs. I imagine this would be great as security for your baby or infant -toddler as well. Seeing as it is listed as a Baby Safety-pet gate, gave me additional confidence in that if it was safe for a human baby, it would be just as good for your k-9 companion. Read more

I purchased this gate to keep my pets on my deck. I had trouble adjusting it to fit my stairway, as it was too stiff to pull out easily. My old gate was easy to adjust, and fit securely. I ended up putting pieces of wood on the ends to give it a more secure fit It will not be secure if the dogs jump up on it or push it, but I put plants in front of the gate to keep the dogs away. It will do, and because it's plastic, it can stay outside. I may try to attach it permanently and make it more secure. This gate is replacing my old gate that we used for 10 years and finally fell apart. I can only hope that this one will last half that long! Read more

1. I have a molding at the doorway that I'm trying to install this item in. It will not accommodate the difference in width of the doorway between the molding at the bottom and the width of the rest of the door. However, I was able to easily mitigate this issue by simply installing the gate just above the molding leaving a space at the bottom that is not a problem for my smallish dog. The tension created in my 33" doorway opening is sufficient to hold the gate in place. Beyond that, individual differences may vary:).2. Once you install it, you have to take it down (uninstall it, essentially) each time a person wants access to the other room. It's an inexpensive solution for sure and I found the gate I tried prior to this one Regalo Easy Step Walk Through Gate, with the swinging door, had issues with too much space on each side of the gate to be safe for my dog so for me, this is the best solution.
