A nightmare. First of all, it stinks. I selected medium brown and got dark brown. Here's the worst part: my hairline receded one inch after this first use. Where I had hair right above my forehead, I now have baby wisps too fine to even move to one side. I can't believe what I'm looking at. I looked at the reviews to see if others reported hair loss from this product. Indeed there are others. My hair is thin to begin with so this is all the more upsetting for me. Right now, I have to hope that the hair will regrow where it fell out; I'm afraid it removed it permanently. From the reviews, it apparently doesn't do anything good "permanently." I heard about people using hair products that caused their hair to fall out. I never considered that trying a "natural" and "organic" product would put me at risk. I'm ready to go back to toxic products that at least leave my hair intact and looking nice. I never heard of anyone getting scalp cancer, has anyone? So, I now have black hair that's coming out as I touch it and I have a bald spot at the hairline. My worst hair coloring experience. Read more
I've been using Natural Instincts semi-permanent hair dye happily for three years when, out of the blue, I had an allergic reaction to the patch test. I'd always kind of rolled my eyes about doing the test, but I did it anyway "to be safe." I stopped rolling my eyes last month after that little quarter-sized spot in the crook of my elbow turned red, broke out in hives, and was unbearably itchy for days. PPD sensitization is real, people!I bought this alternative from the Tints of Nature brand because the product page advertised "lowest possible levels of PPDs," and I hoped I could get away with it. No such luck.On the bright side, doing the patch test for Tints of Nature is easier than for other brands, because you don't have to mix the dye and the developer together. You just stick a Q-Tip into the dye solution, dab it on your skin, and go.On the dark side, a couple of hours after dabbing my elbow with said Q-Tip, my skin turned red and puffy, just like it had for Natural Instincts. The hives and itching haven't hit me yet, but I expect they will.I can't return the box because I've opened it (well, maybe I "could," but I wouldn't feel right about it), so I'll consider this a $11 PPD allergy test. It'll be nothing but temporary vegan colors for me from now on. Read more
This is my favorite natural hair color ever! I have tried to go all natural before with henna color but it took almost 4 hours and made my hair super dry. I have dry brittle hair as it is so that's the last thing I need from a hair color. I've been using this for the last year and it's been a miracle for my hair. It makes my hair super shiny and soft unlike most color. It also lasts a while in the colder months because I'm not exposed to the sun as much. I have light brown hair and like it to be dark so I go for the medium brown. It comes out very dark (almost black) at first and then after a few days, it lightens up slightly to my perfect dark brown color. I can't say enough good things! Read more
This color absolutely trashed my hair. I have hair down to my bra strap, and after using this product chunks and chunks fell into the sink when I rinsed it. It also made my hair feel like straw. Would never, ever use this again. Please beware. Read more
I've had every color hair from platinum blond to redhead. Eventually, I grew to like my natural hair color - medium brunette and then I started to lose my color due to age - it happens to the best of us!The closest shade to my natural hair is between light and medium brown. The Tints of Nature 5N, Natural Light Brown, is the closest shade to my original hair color. The things I love most about Tints of Nature hair color is that it is so gentle on my hair, which gives it a 100% natural appearance. The reason it is so gentle on my hair, and makes it even healthier, is that it has NO ammonia, NO Propylene Glycol, No parabens (these are used as preservatives in other products) which are used in other products, so you don't have that "dried-out" frizzy hair appearance. It looks so natural and soft, instead. It's even "vegetarian and vegan friendly" so no living thing has been caged, killed, the ingredients are just harvested in a garden. It's also readily available both in my local supermarket and on Amazon. If you order it from Amazon, it takes a while for it to be delivered, so place your order well in advance. Read more
I love this brand. I first purchased it a Sprouts (a grocery/produce/supplement store that sells healthier things) locally, and I was amazed at how it doesn't fade, is more natural, smells nice, doesn't seem to damage my hair, and the color is very good. It tends to run darker, but then most of the brands I've tried do the same. I will continue to buy this brand as long as I can find it! Ordering it this way takes a little longer than you might like if you need it in the next few days, but if you plan ahead, you'll have it within a week or two. I'm more than happy with it.Update: still using this brand. I’ve had no reaction as some say they have, and the color does not fade or turn brassy as many others I’ve tried have. I finally got around to adding a photo of what’s included. I’m hoping this brand remains available on Amazon, or I’ll just head to Sprouts for it. Read more
I got compliments on the color. Couldnt believe it was done at home. 2 friemds asked for link. For me, it kasted easily 7 sevens months. Primarily purchased to color grays and give mr some oomph over my mousy brown. I’m swimmimg more now and i’m thinking will have to color it more often, which is fine. No reaction to the chlorine - no green or yellow tones. My hair guy loves it too and said hair is healthy . Said to use it as opposed to $80-100 for him to color. Win win. Dont let the people that have allergic reactions keep you from trying it. Yes people have allergic reactions to things all the time. But to tell others not to buy it is wrong. Thats why you can do a strand test to test it out. What people dont tell you is certain medicines can also trigger the reactions with hair products, cosmetics, etc. Just my personal opinion. Really pleased with this hair colour. I always go to the salon as hate colouring my own hair but current times meant I had no choice. Did lots of research as being a dyed blond colour ( natural colour now sadly grey I’ve discovered!!) it’s notoriously difficult to get right. Tints of Nature had solid reviews and seemed like it would be gentle. Strand test looked ok - no ginger - got my Husband to watch some tutorials first as easier than doing it myself. Bought a cape and the right colouring brush and voila! Thankfully came out great - covered grey roots very well - never as good as the professional colours - but colour is lovely and hair feels great. Would definitely recommend for the amateur colourist - although my Husband now thinks he’s Vidal Sassoon 😂😂😂 Read more
I am so glad I patch tested this product prior to use. I have used this product in the past (but perhaps they have changed the ingredients) with no concerns (I had used it numerous times). However a few months ago I used it (without patch testing) and broke out in painful scalp dermatitis (which looks rather like psoriasis on the scalp). It took 2 months for this to heal using a mixture of steroid creams and Coal Tar shampoos.Fast forward 2 months and I decide to patch test again to double check that it had caused a reaction on my skin. I applied a small amount to my scalp, arm and behind my ear. After a few hours I washed off and recorded the reaction over 48 hours. My arm and ear were free of dermatitis, but my scalp was reacting and I was left with a scale which I immediately treated with steroid cream.I believe this product contains Henna so perhaps this is what I am allergic to.Please take EXTREME care and always patch test a hair product, then i f you have used it XXX amount of times. I nearly ended up in hospital on the last full application and I hope this helps someone. Read more
My own hair colour was completely gray from a young age. This means that I need to put some warm tones back when I am dying my hair. All the lighter tints make my hair look dull and the darker tints look too harsh in my face. I am very happy with this particular colour as it looks not too light or too dark and quite warm. It covers my grey hair quite well. I extend the time until the next dye with the root touch up from Clarol.Very happy and highly recommended, especially because the ingredients are not as harmful as in other hair colour brands! This gives a natural looking permanent colour that is easy to apply (if not the quickest) that fades very gradually so (depending on your natural shade) doesn't leave you with obvious root regrowth. I use this about every 6 weeks on my dark blonde & greyish hair and love the end result, lots of natural looking highlights due to the tonal variations I already have. You do have to wash your hair beforehand (shampoo sachet supplied) and it does take 30-45 minutes to take, but unlike many brands doesn't smell of chemicals (nice scent of camomile actually) and doesn't irritate the scalp or leave the hair smelling of dye for days afterwards. The only thing that I don't rate is the conditioner I just use some of my own instead.Tip. Leave it a minute or so after mixing/shaking the bottle for the lotion to thicken up slightly. Not sure it would be suitable for a dramatic change in shade but that is the sort of thing that most home colourants aren't really suitable for anyway. The colour lasts as long as when I go to the hair salon for a professional hair colour, but for a fraction of the price, and I think much more convenient to do it in your own home. Plus it looks great. The instructions are easy to follow, the product smells great and I've not had any adverse reaction. It's pretty quick and easy to use, just half an hour for a total colour, or if you have grey roots, leave on for 20 minutes with just the colour applied to the roots, then apply all over and leave on for a further 10 minutes. Rinse out and wash your hair. Simple. Read more
