These are the best swaddling blankets. No velcro or straps or need to explain to grandma how to get the baby out of the contraption. The satin tag clearly illustrates how to swaddle, should instruction be needed. My son is nearly two now and I still use these as blankets because they are still big enough to use, which is more than could be said for other popular brand receiving blankets. I purchased this swaddle because I loved the dots and colors. The quality was great and the material was super soft. It was the only swaddle I purchased pre-baby (our first!) that was big enough for a super tight swaddle (we followed the Mom's on Call swaddle instructions). The material helped it keep a tight fit so our baby wasn't breaking free and slept longer in the night and it was warm too. It worked so great that I ordered a second one! These are the best swaddles! They are the perfect weight for effectively constricting my little ones' arms to deter the Moro Reflex. Muslin ones are great for other things, but both of my kids would just wriggle out of them. I own 6 of them myself and recommend them to all new moms.They wash fairly well, too. After 3 weeks of having my new infant only sleeping if she was on me, I called the hospital for advice. They suggested getting the Happiest Baby on the Planet video and figure out how to swaddle effectively. Turns out that my Houdini Baby, who I thought didn't like being swaddled, really needed be swaddled...mommy just didn't do it right. Bottom line...the standard receiving blankets sold in the baby stores do not work. You need this large 42" x42" blanket to make it work. With a little practice and patience with her floundering arms....I got it going. She slept sound in her own crib finally because of this blanket. It saved my life. I have 3 that I rotate. And now will give it as a standard baby shower gift. What I now know...with "back to sleep" the baby will startle awake because they don't have anything holding their arms down. These blankets are a little too warm since it is a flannel-type material. When you follow the swaddling directions, it is like having 5 flannel blankets on top of her (count the layers), and when we unwrapped her she was all sweaty, even in the AC. We had to make sure the AC was on 70 degrees every night. She slept better when swaddled so we didn't mind paying the extra $$ on the electric bill every month.I love the size of these blankets, they were perfect for swaddling. But if you are not a good swaddler they will break free of it, I know because she would break out when my husband wrapped her but not when I did.This blanket is also really cute, I would have to say our baby did look really sweet when wrapped up in this blanket.The blanket was soft when I first got it, but with several washings they are becoming rougher. I stopped using them and moved on to the miracle blanket which is made of a thin cotton material. It is not as cute but it is much more practical. Read more
