I recently had knee surgery that required frequent application of cold packs for several weeks afterward to reduce swelling and inflammation. I have several different varieties of cold packs. This one is far superior to any others I have. One side is a velour type fabric and the other side a vinyl type. The velour fabric side doesn’t get as cold on your skin so you can use that side first and then turn it over. Other cold packs are SO cold you need to put a layer between the pack and your skin. I've bought several of re-freezable gel packs for knees and I am ordering my third of this type. I like this model because: 1) There are straps above and below the knee caps. They wrap around the sides of the knee. 2) I can conveniently walk around with these on. 3) Velvet material on one side allows use on bare skin with little or no possibility of frost bite while nylon side provides more rapid cooling and cooling through clothes.Long floppy straps are slightly awkward when storing in the freezer, but functionality when being warn is far more important to me. I needed an ice pack after having a broken leg, torn acl, severe bruising and swelling and knee surgery. I decided to buy this and give it a try. The ice pack is very well designed. I ice at least 4 times a day. It will stay on and if it slips while walking just adjust the Velcro straps. Lays flat in its own reusable bag when freezing. I ended up buying a second one and love it. I carry these with me everywhere and freeze at work, home, etc. While traveling for work and staying in a hotel, I did try to freeze it in an ice chest with ice but didn’t freeze well. Biggest drawback is the length of time they stay cool. 6 hrs in the freezer got me about 15 mins of cold compress.However, it’s a durable design, hugs the knees very well, the Velcro fastening straps are excellent and really keeps the pads close to skin.
