*So for everyone who just wants to know if this is a good buy and worth the money, yes it is. It is well constructed, looks very nice and is infinitely sturdy. For those who want a more detailed review, here we go! So, starting with the look of the gate, it is less like a infant/dog gate and more like a tiny garden gate. We use it on our stairs so that when we're away it ensures the dogs don't find themselves a fancy new potty spot or new pair of underwear to toss around. It is important to note that this gate has a door for a reason, it is not the traditional lightweight wooden and white plastic baby gate, this thing is STURDY. It's very high quality metal that requires an (pretty easy) installation. So its not something you'd want to buy if you're looking to take a gate up and down as it would be way too cumbersome for that.Although we don't have to worry about tiny hands trying to open the gate door, I'm sure that's the reason many of you are interested in this product, and I'll tell you it is really well designed for that function. It has three different childproof mechanisms, the first is that you have to slide a tab over at the top of the gate to release the door latch, the second is that you have to actually lift up on the door itself for it to open at all, and the third is that it is spring loaded with a pretty sizable spring force in order to close the door behind you. While I love the first two mechanisms because they have been added in a way that doesn't add any visual bulk to the gate, it's the third one that concerns me. This is why it lost a star- as I said it really does have a sizable force behind the spring and this thing will SLAM shut. So in the (albeit unlikely) instance of any little fingers making their way in there, it wouldn't end well, and as unlikely as it may be with the first two precautions, trouble like that just seems to follow kids around so you might as well take it into consideration.Overall this product gets 4 stars but I would certainly recommend it for its sturdy construction and the way it blends into our home without looking like a cheap baby gate. The spring loaded door return is too intense for my comfort and makes a loud slam when you go through if you don't hold and close it behind you. I can only assume that the positive reviews are written by people who aren’t using all of the included extensions. Unfortunately, I needed to use all of the included extension pieces to cover my 45” opening.By design, a fair amount of pressure needs to be applied at the mounting points both to properly align the gate latch and to ensure that the gate is held firmly in place. By the time all of the extensions are installed and sufficient pressure has been applied at the mounting points, however, the entire gate assembly buckled/bowed.I’ve included two pictures. In the first picture I’m using my foot to hold the gate in position and prevent it from buckling. In the second picture, I have removed my foot and you can see how badly it bowed.I returned it. DO NOT BUY THIS GATE. We did everything correctly to install this gate at the top of the stairs, and the gate lock on the gate failed, causing my 16-month-old son to fall down four stairs onto the landing. Thank god there was a landing for him to fall onto, instead of a full flight of stairs. I was just downstairs, and my husband had been upstairs with him. This happened so quickly and not because we'd left him alone! He's quite the curious and strong kiddo, so even though we had the door swing inward, rather than push outward as an extra precaution, he still managed to open the gate and tumble down the stairs. The lock on this works sometimes but not other times. I have no idea what causes the lock to fail, but it is extremely dangerous. Our baby boy could be dead right now because of this faulty gate. Obviously not every single gate is faulty, since there are so many positive reviews, but honestly, do you want to put your child at risk of serious injury or death? DON'T DO IT! La compré para que mi perro no entre a la concina, pues le gustó para hacer pipi, no tuve que montarla solo la puse a presión y funciona. La puerta es verdad que no es tan sencilla de abrir, pero entiendo que es como seguro para bebés, de lo contrario sería muy fácil abrir y si abres completamente se detiene para cuando no tenga que estar cerrada. Si la puerta está muy rígida tal vez está muy ajustada.Toma en cuenta lo siguiente:Si algo no te funciona es porque algo estás haciendo mal, las extensiones deben quedar perfectamente ancladas para que no se doble, y la puerta debe ajustarse muy bien para que funcione correctamente.Me animé a comprarlo a pesar de que hay otros más económicos por las reseñas y porque tiene extensiones suficientes para un espacio un tanto amplio, incluso me sobró una extensión. Me gusto que está alta y ancha, (por esto la compre) pero para abrir la puerta tienes que físicamente levantar la puerta, esto hace muy difícil poder abrirla con una sola mano, también se notan demasiado las puntadas en donde fue soldada, si fuera como la otra que tengo que se puede abrir con una sola mano estaría más contenta con esta compra. Very sturdy and come with several extenders making it suitable for a wide variety of hallways. Installation was easy, screwed into the wooden bannisters even my 90 pound bouncy Labrador can’t break out. The hold open feature is cool too. Two minor quibbles: it’s not bronze, it’s more like matt brown, and the catch doesn’t take on closing - you have to press quite firmly to make sure it’s really closed.
