It looks like most of the one star reviews didn’t read the directions on how to put it together or the packaging on the front saying there should be a gap between the where it latches. As you tighten it in the doorway, it closes and lines up. It’s right there in the very easy to read instruction Manuel (not to mention on a sign when you first pull it out saying it is suppose to be that way) I recently moved and don’t have doors in a loft style place. I wanted to keep my dog out of my closet but didn’t want an eyesore. This gate is beautiful and perfect! Easy to instal and easy to follow instructions (even with a migraine) I will actually be getting another one for my bedroom for times I want to keep him out of there as well. I absolutely loved the look if this gate. And even though im only keeping a dog out of the room, my Diva cats did not want to jump it unless the dog was coming, smh. So i almost bought another gate that had a pet door. But the only type that had a swinging pet door was over $100. Plus i was worried that the gate would get pushed shut and they wouldn't be able to get out. So we decided instead of spending over $60 more we tried to install our own cat door. We installed it so that it lined up perfectly with cat door on my bedroom door. (Which you can buy for $5-$10. however, i had an extra one,unfortunately it was white)It worked PERFECTLY! We have owned many baby gates between our puppies and 3 kids. Many from this company and I'm a little disappointed in this gate. Granted, part is my fault for not researching it better. When the description said a metal gate, I assumed the whole thing would be metal. The decorative center of this gate is thin plastic. I don't think it will hold up well to an active toddler. For now it will accomplish what I need it to, which is keep a crawling 6 month old from stairs, but sadly it will need to be replaced sooner than later. Read more

We love this gate! I bought this to replace the cheap wood & plastic $10 gate from Walmart that has to be taken up and down. We have a large dog that is older & likes to separate himself from our toddler, so letting him in and out of our room was beginning to be a real pain.I wanted a gate that met 4 requirements.1. Fixed, with a door.2. The door had the ability to swing both ways.3. Could be opened with one hand.4. Closed by itself, BUT stayed open if I wanted...This ticked ALL of those boxes!!A couple of notes...-My only tiny issue is that it is tough to open; not the lever - it’s really taught so it’s hard to pull it up to swing it open. I can still do it with my infant in the other arm, so no big deal.-In order for it to swing both ways we just removed the plastic piece which screws on to the frame. Really simple.-It might have taken my husband about 20 minutes to install without ever looking at the instructions. (We did not need the extensions.)-Yes, the decorative door is plastic, but we’ve never had a problem with our other gate between both the toddler and dog, so I don’t foresee this being any issue. The rest is metal.-And finally, in reference to those who have complained that their door is unaligned or warped, there is an in-your-face cardboard tag that says that it is supposed to be that way in order to properly function.(See pictures) Read more

I've been using this for a few weeks now. I wanted to wait a bit before I left a review. This is a really good gate, and I've used tons.The door is great. It has a "hold-open mechanism", so if you want to leave the door open, you can leave it pushed back. It stays pushed back, it's not like a typical gate where the door just kind of swings there. It won't close again unless you WANT it to close. The closing of the door is better than most gates. Once you start to close it, it will swing shut and latch by itself. It's good for if your hands are full, or if you have older kids going through that aren't paying much attention.What really sticks out to me about this gate is how sturdy it is. When the door swings shut, the gate doesn't move or shift.This is one of those "one-handed opening" gates. At first, we all needed two hands to do it, and I was kind of annoyed. After a few days had passed, we had no more issues. It was a combination of getting used to it, and I think the gate latch needed to be broken in a little. Everyone (except the 2 year old) is able to use it one-handed easily, even my 10 year old.Not as important, but, the gate is very nice looking. No more of those white plastic abominations that I had to use when my teens were babies. Read more

I originally hated this gate when first trying to install it. I thought I had a bent one like some people mentioned in comments because the latch wouldn't line up. Thank goodness for my husband though because he pointed out what now seems obvious: this is a tension gate. The latch/lock isn't going to meet the other side until you have it set up on the wall and the ends full of tension. It was a fight that required both of us- once the bottom was all set up, he pulled the tops solid metal bars to the middle towards the latch until they met and it locked while I pulled the bolt out as far as it needed to go to meet our wall and then tightened the nut into place. It was definitely a good effort for us both, but we eventually got it. Now I absolutely love this gate.Things to note:1. The middle lattice part is plastic, not metal. Can't really tell, but for some reason I was surprised at first.2. The latch doesn't line up until you've applied tension.3. If you have a climber, they can get their little toes and fingers in the lattice part and climb this if they're really determined. Our youngest has climbed about halfway up before getting caught and I don't doubt she could/will completely scale it in the future. I wouldn't suggest this for the top of stairs just because of this. Al inicio me resultó un poco complicado de instalar pero era porque no terminaba de entender el concepto (aparentemente esta descuadra pero es para mayor estabilidad y seguridad) una vez que comprendí como ponerla resulto muy fácil y quedo muy bien. Es segura pues aplicas algo de fuerza y se mantiene estable, y 9ara abrir hay que quitar seguro y levantarla(es decir un bebe no la podría).
