Original Kits include bleach because chemically lightened hair will have brighter and longer-lasting results. Splat Hair Colors are a semi-permanent direct dye meaning it sits outside the hair surface and dyes the cuticle of the hair. Think of this as the paint of hair color because there is no chemical reaction from developers and oxidative hair color. Less damage and more fun! Pro Tip: Splat Hair Color may temporarily stain skin and permanently stain the fabric of clothes, towels, and bedding, etc. Use petrolatum jelly on your face and neck before applying color to avoid staining. First of all, I am a cosmology school graduate and have been dying my hair bright colors for over a decade. I have used every product you can imagine (Artic fox, Manic panic, Ion brights, Wella colorcharm etc.) and I know most stylists are so against Splat! But for me it's my absolute go-to. I would advise those who are not properly educated on bleach to heed this advice though...40 volume developer is not normally used, even for dark hair. It's extremely strong and WILL cause chemical burns if it gets on your scalp. Your hair MUST be dirty so your scalp has natural oils to protect your scalp. Secondly, DO NOT leave it on for long at all. I usually don't leave it on for more than 15 minutes and I have very dark hair. Do not overlap with already bleached hair. If you need to bleach again, cut the time down even more so you don't melt your hair. Use shimmer lights to tone out yellow tones and even a toner or color remover to avoid having to bleach again. Your hair needs to be white for the "neon green" or it will not take properly but most of the other colors will dye over the brassy orange tones just fine. Also, you really need to commit when using Splat. It lasts forever and stains the cuticle. You can easily transition between other bright colors once it fades a bit but it will not be your natural color any time soon. With all of this in mind, Splat ALWAYS delivers. The color is rich, vivid and has serious staying power. I get tons of compliments every time I use it and will forever be a Splat customer. The photo is while my hair is wet so it will dry much brighter! Read more
This is my go-to kit for fast and easy bleaching. I use it on my roots every 8 weeks or so. I recommend soaking hair in coconut oil overnight. Mix bleach with clarifying shampoo and apply over the coconut oil on hair. This helps protect against damage. 😊 Read more

This brand may have other good products ( I don't know I've never used them) or maybe I got an expired box (didn't want to dig it out of the garbage after the fact) but knew better to check expiration first so that's on me. Target & CVS sells this exact product for 5$ cheaper with no long wait time and that's on me to BUT that being said.......THIS DAMN PRODUCT DID NOT MIX WELL PERIOD. It stayed grainy and super runny the entire time making application a nightmare. Yes, I followed directions to a T! You could see the granules on my hair even though I tried to blend it in. Should have just thrown in it the garbage where it belongs and not proceeded but hey I never worry as I can fix mistakes with hair pretty easily. So I finished the application and IT DIDN'T REALLY DO ANYTHING EXCEPT DRY MY HAIR OUT BADLY & GIVE ME DOME UNEVEN RUST COLOR IN PATCHES OF HAIR. For me that supports the fact that the product did not mix and develop as it should have. Trust me on this I've done my own hair for years. I promise, if you're a brunette and feel comfortable doing your own hair either go to Sally's and buy lightening powder and developer or try Loreal Feria absolute platinum if you're looking to lift from dark to blonde. It generally takes more than one cycle to lift then a good purple shampoo and mask to tone the brassy/yellow but, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME on this inferior product. Not worth the damage to your tresses! Read more
I could not possibly be more pleased with how this turned out! My hair has a lot of layers, and I bleached/dyed the bottom layers. Some of the layers had been previously bleached/colored, so that part of my hair bleached to platinum. Other layers were newly bleached, so those came out light blond. The platinum parts came out the really vibrant shades of purple, and the light blond parts came out more pinkish-purple. I love the different shades but, if you want to ensure consistent color, all you would need to do is ensure your hair is bleached consistently. The first photo was taken with my hair pulled back in kind of a messy knot the day after I first dyed it, to demonstrate (a) the color differences noted above and (b) my natural starting color. If you are starting with a similar shade of medium brown hair, I would recommend considering two applications of bleach. Especially if you decide to do only one application of bleach, I would also recommend waiting approximately 12 hours between bleaching and dying, as the bleach seems to continue to penetrate for a while--and hair seems to continue to lighten--even after it is washed out.The second photo is from three weeks later. Still vibrant and still LOVING it!!!One cautionary note: All hair dye can stain (duh - it's dye), but this will REALLY stain--skin, surfaces, fixtures--anything it touches. Just be extra, extra careful if you don't want you and your house looking like it got attacked by Harold and his purple crayon. ;) Read more
This was a disaster! The developer used for the bleach portion MUST be a vol 10 because it took for friggin' ever for her hair to bleach out to a level 9+. And, if you follow the instructions, you were to rinse it, dry it, and apply bleach a 2nd time .... then shouldn't they include this with the kit? We only colored the nape area and the bleach in the packet was barely enough to do this once. When we did finally apply the color, it came out a rainbow of pinks! Thank goodness we had some N'rage left over and with one application we achieved purple. I'm not trying to promote another product, but thought other potential buyers who experience the same issues might want to know how we fixed her hair. :) Read more
I've used Splat three or four times, and I just LOVE it! I've tried so many other brands, only to be disappointed with the lackluster color, and how quickly it fades. Follow the (simple) instructions, and you'll have fabulous, long lasting color! Even after many weeks, as it begins to fade, the color is still awesome. I use Lusty Lavender, and I get compliments everywhere I go; it's like people are surprised they like it :D Besides being great color, it looks amazing; it's bright and happy, never dull and sad looking like others. I will keep using Splat, and highly recommend it!NOTE: I highly recommend the following TIPS for best result:1) Follow the instructions! 2) Be sure to wash and rinse *thoroughly* to get all the bleach out. 3) Allow your hair to rest after bleaching and shampooing, at least overnight, to allow the bleaching process to fully end before adding color. If you don't allow the resting period (24-48 hours) you could end up with uneven results, that will fade quickly. 4) SPLAT cannot be applied like other hair color products! The kit doesn't come with an application brush, but I do suggest using one. Otherwise, watch the YouTube video so you can see how to apply the color correctly without a brush. 5) I prefer Splat Purple Passion for best long term color; it fades to a lovely lavender. Read more
Absolutely recommended. The bleach that comes with the kit does the job and the colour is as bright as its shown in the box. After spending a fortune in the salon and hardly seeing the colouring, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this product does work on pitch black hair. The colour lasts up to 4 weeks providing that you wash your hair with lukewarm water. Read more
The bleach was crap, it didnt change the colour of my dark brown hair at all, but luckily I'd got another ombre bleaching kit so used that, and I fell in love with the pink n purple colours! Really vibrant n pretty! Make sure u wear gloves n very careful not to get any of the dye on your skin or surfaces as it stains instantly! Colour has lasted weeks too! Read more
Very good saturation and fades out pink and not green, always a bonus! It's does stain far more than any other direct dye I've used so you do need to use an effective barrier cream around the hairline and ears. Normally, the scalp stains that show along a parting wash out within the first wash on most Semi's but with this one, it was a good 5/6 washes because the scalp stains disappeared. So don't apply immediately before an important event! Read more
