I bought a 6 pack of colored Pentel RSVP ballpoint pens and they were perfect. Gel pens may smear. It comes with putty which also made it a lot easier for the rings to stay down. The pens they give you with this kit are thick point markers, which will rip your paper after awhile. It's still a fun crafty game but my boys lost interest after their designs on their papers ripped. Regular pens do fit FYI. Read more

I purchased these for my grandson and myself hoping they would be as fun is the ones I had many many many years ago. I found that the odd shapes we're difficult to maneuver and use even for me let alone for my 6 year old grandson. It may have been that I wasn't familiar with how to use them. Both me and my grandson lost interest in them quite quickly and put them up and haven't used them since. I ordered another set that was all round like the ones I had as a child. Cheaply made and sprockets did not fit and move smoothly together definitely cheaper made than the ones from my time that worked much better than this product. Unless you are a avid spirograph user I would think you would find these difficult to use. For me I was disappointed and would not purchase again or recommend because all the difficulty to make consistent designs. Read more

These are hard in the aspect that your pen doesn’t glide smoothly like I remember when I was a kid. Bought this for a child and they had a difficult time using it and it wasn’t fun for them. I can’t believe there is not one circle in this set to make shapes with. There are a number of other odd and difficult shapes to work with, but not.one.circle. What on earth?? I’m returning for a set with, you know, circles so we can easily make pleasing designs.The only thing good about this is there are several large shapes to use to make the patterns so several kids can play at one time. If you need an add on kit, you will enjoy that feature, but the shapes they give you are not easy or fun to use. Read more

Well the “fun shapes” were Not so fun. I am an adult and an artist. I was so excited to give this to my niece, but she tired it and couldn’t learn how to use it. I thought it was because she’s only a kid, but then I tried. UGH! I had one of these when I was about her age and I loved it! But then they tried to get all fancy and add weird shapes that are extremely hard to maneuver to make anything at all. Seriously i just wanted the good old fashion one. If I could give this negative stars, I sure would; it’s not even worth one star. The material is super cheap; nothing like the one I had growing up. I bought it for my daughter as a Christmas gift.
