I was looking for something to soften my sons hair. His barber told me to get this, so I did. He has a problem with dryness and shine. Now it makes his hair soft and kinda of slippery but it’s still no shine. Very manageable to, lol I don’t hit those naps hard like before. After I rub it in and comb it out, it still looks as if I didn’t put anything in his hair. It has an okay smell as well. I have 4c hair and fell in love with this product as soon as it arrived. I started using this product every few days along with a myriad of essential oils and other natural hair products to lock in moisture, and my hair was instantly much softer, remained moisturized for days and I was able to retain so much more length!The only problem is this product is extremely oily and greasy, and made me breakout multiple times ( I even developed a chin acne rash at one point, yuck!) . This was particularly concerning, as although I have oily skin, I never experience breakouts and am always blemish-free and have pretty non-problematic skin. Additionally, I noticed an oily residue every day wherever I laid my head and couldn't help but to recall jherri curl juice jokes from the movie Coming to America.I really tried everything in my power to be able to continue using this product because I loved what it did to my hair and even washed my pillow cases and blankets every other day, but nothing helped, and I continued to see nasty zits appear all over my face like a teenager. I have used this stuff for forever and really like it when my hair gets extra dry and starts breaking. If you wear your hair "natural" this is good is used VERY LIGHTLY on non-damaged hair. If your hair happens to be damaged, fragile, or really dry, you can use more of this and more often. I tend yo use this after I have been putting heat in my hair for temporary straightening. It helps to re-moisturize and get my hair back into it's curly state. Also I will use this if I am going to be wearing twists or some other protective styling. I used it all the time when I wore braided extensions because it works so much better than the "braid sprays".If you have relaxed hair, this is probably not for you. Maybe only use to moisturize your scalp and roots. Otherwise, it will make it hard to do any kind of heat styling for curls or waves. I think this is best for people who wear kinky/coily/natural styles or braiding and other protective styles.A little of this goes a long way. If you are new to using it, you might be tempted to just start spraying and spraying (because it comes out in a fine-to-medium mist), but I suggest spraying a little at a time, massaging or 'scrunching' it in to absorb. Too much of this will make your hair feel overly wet and it weigh down your hair. And if you use this just before bedtime, let it soak in or be sure to cover your hair so you don't stain your pillow and bedding. I like to put this on at least a half hour or so before I go anywhere. That gives my hair time to absorb the moisture.If you find that this one is too much for your hair, try getting the "regular" type. This really is for "extra dry" hair. That's why I try to keep both types on hand and just use this when I need a lot of moisturizing.A note about the size: I have moved and the local Walmart is not as accessible until I get a car so I buy this kind of stuff online. What I didn't do when I was ordering this is pay attention to the size. I usually get the big 16 oz (I think) bottle and pay about this price. I bought this to use on my itchy scalp and mature dreadlocks. One thing I didn't notice was that this is a "comb out" spray, which was worrisome since I obviously can't comb my hair. However I don't notice any build-up from it, so it's okay.After each use I can immediately feel that my hair is less dry and softer. It doesn't seem to do much for the scalp itchiness, though.
