I’ve had these Doc martins for 23 years. Yes. 23 years. I got them as a birthday gift for my 13th birthday. And if anyone knows anything about the 90s paying $95 for a pair of shoes was huge. My mother practically threaten my life, that if anything happened to these shoes I wouldn’t live to the next year. So of course I kept them I kept them through moves through colleges through adulthood. In January I wore them on a girls trip to Scotland and realized how beat up they were. About two weeks ago I saw a BuzzFeed article about this product so I thought why not and I used it. The shoes look like they did on the day that I got them. This product has restored 23-year-old doc Martins to look like new. Read more

If you’re like me, then you recently bought a new pair of boots and want to make sure they last. You are reading these reviews because you are worried that if you apply mink oil to your new boots, it’s going to react in a weird way and destroy them. I’ve used mink oil many times in the past so I can tell you this… If you purchased a lighter colored boot, the mink oil WILL make your boots darker. There is no way around this, the mink oil is being absorbed into the leather. In my case, I knew this would happen, and was quite pleased with the outcome. In my picture, you can see that the difference between the original shade of leather and the change after an application of mink oil is quite noticeable, however I prefer the boots a little darker. The leather will now be protected from the elements, will be easier to clean and will last much longer. Just know that if you have Timberlands, CATS, work boots etc in a lighter color like wheat or honey, your boots WILL darken. Stop reading multiple reviews in the hopes that someone will tell you their boots didn’t darken. It’s NOT the case, they WILL darken. The lighter the boot, the more impact it will have on the color. In my experience, mink oil has had little to no color change on a black or dark brown boot. I’ve heard of waterproofing sprays that will protect your boots without changing the color/shade, just know that those sprays are putting a sealer on top of the leather, they are not conditioning the leather as mink oil does. If you can live with the fact that the mink oil will darken the color of your boots, then it is the best choice for conditioning. The easiest way to apply is just put on a latex glove, scoop some out of the tin, and work it into the leather. Wait 5 minutes and buff off the excess with a shoe sponge or lint free cloth (don’t use paper towel, it will be a mess).I rarely write reviews, I was just surprised that no one had posted an example of the color change on a lighter colored pair of work boots, so figured I’d do so. Hopefully this review helped someone. Good luck. Read more

For those of us in the workforce who wear leather boots in all weather, and have done so for years, we know how nice, and important it is to 1, take care of our boots, and 2, keep your feet dry.To those just entering that workforce, first, welcome! Second, now that you have your boots, the secret to keeping them for years, nice, supple, and looking good, is oil and clean them. This will take care of your oiling needs, and help with break in time. Your feet will thank you.To keep them dry, sure, you can try other sealers, or preservers, but they won't last long. This stuff is a true blue water proofer for leather, and the only one I buy, or recommend. As a bonus, boot stink? Ha! Not for me! My misses doesn't complain one bit with this good stuff! To each their own though, and good luck! Read more

Worked great on my leather boots. See the before/after picture I have posted.I did not notice any smell, good or bad.Be careful not to put too much on your leather; a little bit goes a long way. You have to wipe off the excess after you apply it, so if you apply too much, it's just more to wipe off later. Read more

After extensive experimenting and caring for 7 pairs of Red Wing boots, I have found that you should only use this on leather that gets a lot of use. The oil goes rancid and smells and ends up rotting the stitching, if you do not wear through it regularly. I use it on my several pairs work boots, but would never use on my casual boots again. For non-work wear, just get a leather conditioner not made from animal by-products. I'd also recommend only using leather conditioner on already waterproof boots, as thats all Mink Oil does that leather conditioner doesnt.Other than that, the 3.5oz can has finally reached its last little bit after 16 months of conditioning many pairs of boots on an as-needed basis(monthly for some, every 3 months for others).I attached a before and an after picture of my Red Wing Postman Oxfords. They darkened a bit, but have already started getting lighter after (2) 8-hour shifts of non-stop standing, walking, and throwing 80lb concrete bags onto a cart until it is at 1600lbs for me to push.It will also buff out most of the damage from funning into my shoes with the wheels. At first I freaked because this made my boots so much darker than I was used to. Then I realized “oh this is what they used to look like before the California sun sucked the life out of them”. Freaking amazing. I took my time and applied like I would if I waxed my car to avoid streaks or stains. My boots are refreshed and new looking! Very happy! Read more

Product is as advertised and works very well both restoring and waterproofing smooth leather. I used 1/3 tbsp of it emulsified with hot water in a spray bottle for 8 yr old stiff suede ugg tazmons and it worked the same majic even restored black color was greying. Msds shows 5-15% mink oil content with the major balance being tallow. Its the real deal don't be fooled by others claiming mink but selling neatsfoot. Always check the Msds. Want pure 100% mink oil check out THINK MINK (not on Amazon). Read more

Super happy with this product. Mink oil can get really expensive and after reading some reviews I decided to try this. It is gorgeous! Totally softens the leather and leaves a nice shine to it. Purchased it for some leather motorcycle gear and I'm so happy with it I have ordered 3 more. Very happy with how well it works compared to other products I have tried over the years! Have used it on Jackets, Boots, leather seats, couches! Less expensive doesn't always mean less quality. Quite happy with this! Read more

My wife bought this mink oil to use on a few of her leather products - primarily boots. We stumbled around from product to product until we landed on Mink Oil and decided to take a chance based on a few articles we'd read and the relatively positive reviews. The good news is, the product works extremely well. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to catch her BEFORE she had applied the product. All I have is an after photo. However, in my opinion, the oil restored a healthy shine and deep red/blacks to my wife's boots without too much fussing. First, she scrubbed her boots with this  Moneysworth and Best Saddle Soap Tub  to clean off the salt and grime, and then she just followed the mink instructions, and bam -- results! The shine is deep and perdy. And keep in mind, these are 3 (red) and 5 (black) year old boots, respectively. The best part is that we barely had to use any, so $8 is going to go a long way. My wife said, "I barely got a divet [of oil] out. I wouldn't be surprised if it lasted my lifetime." As far as protecting goes, I look forward to updating this review. As of now, I'm definitely satisfied that we chose this particular mink oil. Read more

Ive not tried other Mink oil products, but I cannot complain with this one. It is very easy to work with and does a great job. The leather does get a bit darker, but imo it makes the leather look much better, and it protects it. It also works really well to soften the leather and makes a very noticeable difference. Gave it 4 stars because I have nothing to compare it to and while it seems to work well to me, there may be better products. Read more

Really to apply onto shoes - wish it came with a sponge applicator but otherwise a great product at a good price. It hasn’t rained in a while so I can’t attest to its waterproofing abilities, but it seems to protect shoes quite well otherwise. Read more
