Ever had a cat that insists on sneaking around in your closet? What about a cat that uses your hanging clothes as a ladder sort of like in American Ninja - clawing, scratching, pulling threads until only shredded fabric is left? That's been me for awhile. I've been baffled by the fact that the closet doors are difficult for humans to open, getting caught on the rollers and what not. However, my bengal cat appears to have the strength of 5 humans and opens the doors with no difficulty at all. She apparently knows how to pull duct tape off the doors as well.I saw this sliding door lock on Amazon after researching tons of options. I decided to give it a try. It worked the first time and every time since. It's easy to install and highly effective. My cat has not gotten in the closet since the day I put it on. I use these locks on my sliding closet doors. My cat loves getting into my closet. He learned how to paw the doors until they slid open—which is very cute, and totally what cats do. However, whenever he has gotten into my closet, he's knocked things over and it looked like a train drove through it. So... after devising makeshift "blocking systems"—which entailed cutting to-size, and placing a long gift wrap tube along the runners, to keep the doors from sliding—my wife suggested these.Perfection! These are by far the best childproofing sliding door locks we have found, and we've tried a few. There's not much to say except: they work, they look good, and they're sturdy enough to have survived many attempts by our toddler to open the doors without any signs of distress.My only piece of advice is to be careful how close you put them to the door it will be holding shut. Too far away, and your child may be able to a.) stick their fingers in the crack and potentially slam them in there still OR b.) pull at the door with enough momentum to potentially damage the lock. Too close and you'll either a.) have the lock under constant strain if the door it's holding back is constantly applying pressure to it OR b.) it will be harder to "set" the lock with one hand because you'll have to always push the door it's holding back "away" simultaneously while setting the lock.That last scenario (a touch too close) is what I'm dealing with on one of our doors, but it's only a very minor annoyance. So I'd say I'm more tossed up between a 3 and a 4 star review. I'd say 4 because it does work! Sticks good, and locks the window and doors in place.... but..... we have these real light weight flimsy fake wood sliding doors in our apartment. And some how my son figured out, if he pulls just right and does it enough times it pops the latch and with one last pull it pops it loose.... so ultimately if there is no slack in your window or door its good. But with some slack and room to slide? It's not that great. Also if someone is super strong they could ultimately break it real easy. But otherwise it's a good product. So I rate it 3 and a half. This thing is a life savor!!! I have some of the most frustrating pets. My cats like to slide my closet door open to sleep on my clothes..always my black wardrobe and my dogs likes to slide the pantry door open to help himself to everything..usually carbs..dog after my own heart! This is a wonderful product! It’s very discreet and can be hidden toward the bottom of the door. We were originally going to have a piece of wood cut, similar to what you’d put in windows to keep people from breaking in, but I’m glad I looked for alternative solutions on amazon because instead of the wood just keeping one side from opening this thing prevents my pets from opening both sides! I did put a big note on my doors temporarily reminding myself and my kids it’s on there to prevent us from just trying to yank the doors open too quickly because it’s not like they’re metal or screwed into the door, but they do seem pretty sturdy. I have sliding closet doors that are painted paneling hung from a ceiling track. The cats love to go in and spread their "sparkle glitter" fur allover my clothing on the bottom row. Some items got thrown out due to the fur got so entwined in the fabric's weave it was beyond salvage with a lint roller.These clips work great and adhere well. My bf installed the first one wrong so you do have to be very sure about the clearance of placement before you commit. The adhesive was difficult to remove so we are confident the new one will hold up for a while. The clear plastic is a nice touch and the mechanism to open and lock works easily once I got the hang of it.I do feel bad for the cats as to they are quite frustrated with the new "situation" Remember if you are trying to keep cats out of small places sometimes the drive is more quiet place / panic room than curiosity or boredom. A "safe place" is always appreciated from cats and should be set up elsware if can be accommodated. We noticed how stressed they were after installing the locks and did not realize this was their place to go when we were using power tools, loud music, vacuuming, visitors etc.. So we now grant them temporary access during these occasional times and "deal" with the shedding aftermath.
