We have been using this ointment for at least three generations. We ALWAYS have a small jar with us when we travel. It is amazing. Amazing history how it developed. We use it for insect bites, small infections, chafed nose when we have a cold, burns, etc. You won't believe how well it works. I am a nurse, and this stuff is wonderful. Every home should have this. This is the first time, after all these years, that I have been able to leave a review about this. I don't understand why you don't find it everywhere. The one drawback--if you use very much, it has a terrible smell. But all worth it. Read more

I grew up with this salve because my parents (who both grew up on farms) grew up with this salve. One tin lasts about what feels like 20 years. I introduced this salve to my husband and 5 children as a tried and true healing ointment. Porters Salve has a distinct scent to it that turns many people off initially. Don’t worry. That is the smell of healing. Healing! You’ll get used to it and learn to love it and/or accept it as soon as you try it. One application to a sting, rash or wound and your whole family will be a Porters salve convert. My husband always packs a tin in his travel bag and my 11 yo has been packing salve when he goes on trips since he was 5. We never leave home without it! And we put salve on everything! There is practically nothing this salve can’t do. We have 5 kids and we use Porters salve on wounds, rashes, bug bites, jellyfish stings, sunburns and chafing. Since we use it so much and for so many different things a tin only lasts us 10 years now instead of 20. I even buy 2 at a time now. When my very fair daughter was a baby she would go from a healthy tushy to a bleeding and fiery red rash on her bum from one diaper change to the next. Same with my twin boys. We started using it on diaper rash and soon the other neighborhood mommies were buying it too. It’s highly effective on chafing, stings, rashes and burns. It truly eases the pain and takes the red out. Plan to put a bandaid or cloth over where you apply. My boys will put it on chafing and then put their boxer briefs on and go to bed. Chafing is gone by morning and the salve washes right out of the clothing. I’ve never had it stain any clothes. You don’t have to cover the salve when you apply it but it does helps it stay on longer. We applied porters salve to a jellyfish sting on one of my kids at the beach. We didn’t bother covering it (it was a long line of a sting from the tentacle). He just kept it on a while before he got back in the water and it washed off. It still took the red out and the swelling from the sting was gone.I hope they never stop making this salve. It’s incredible. Read more

Like some other reviewers, I grew up on this stuff. I recently got a blister and thought "Boy I wished I had some Porter's" Actually I wondered if it was even made any more. Internet search lead me here and instantly in the cart. I went down a rabbit hole of looking at old tins and found that over the years the new improved tins got smaller and smaller.... 3oz, then 2.5, now a modern one 2.0. Progress I say! *rolls eyes*I literally just got it. They say smell triggers the strongest memories. My grandmother fixing me up as a child and the hurt going away under a swath of Porter's. The smell is as much soothing to me mentally right now as it would be on a cut or scrape. Kind of what I needed and didnt even know.Thank you to the seller of this product for that. Also, seller, you should hang your head in shame at the price gouging you are doing on it. My tin slid out of the box with the steep price of $1.86 not a bad raking you are doing selling at $9.99. I hope you burn for it. Heck you can even sooth those burns with some creamy goodness of Porter's Salve. Yet my disdain for your greed cant wipe the smile from my face at the nostalgia this has brought back. Read more

Same as I remembered it! We always had this in the medicine cabinet when I was a kid. I gave the scent 5 stars because it still doesn’t smell the best lol. It’s not a really bad smell but you know it’s a type of real medicine from the old days! I remember getting many splinters as a kid. My mom would put this on my finger along with a bandaid and dang it would keep it from getting infected and somehow draw the splinter out! Also it lasted forever , one can goes a long way. I don’t think it ever went bad or expired because we’d have the same can for years. I know that may sound funny or ridiculous to anyone that has never used it. But I’m telling you this is really great stuff!! Great on minor cuts , burns , blisters. Read more

Love Porter’s liniment salve! Smells like medicine, which turns people away, BUT I have bought it multiple times & my 19 year old granddaughter loves it. She uses it for muscle aches when her job runs her ragged Read more

We have used this for many years and my husband’s family for many years before that. We use it to draw infection and soreness out of wounds. It has a distinctive smell but it is worth it for how well it works. Just apply to a bandaid and onto a wound or directly on the wound and leave on. Reapply if you need to. Of course large wounds are beyond its capabilities. Use on scratches and shallow cuts. Read more

Once again they have Bumped the Price up to £17 🤷🏻‍♀️2nd time I have bought this Product ,it's very good plus works really fast .I had been bitten by an insect in my garden & no matter what I tried I could not get the bite to go ,I bought this salve & it healed in no time, another time I had a tiny splinter in my hand ,I could feel it but could not for the life of me see it to remove with tweezers ,I put some of this Salve on my hand to try draw it out I covered it with a Plaster ,Later that day I removed the plaster & the Splinter was no longer there .. I know it’s good stuff but I don’t know why they charge £9:25 one minute and then £17 and now it’s £15 . I suppose they will blame it on Covid 🤦🏻‍♀️ Funny how even the stores that were still able to function when the rest of the world went into lockdown Hike up the Prices yet they didn’t struggle they were still able to make Money, It’s either Covid or the War Between Ukraine and Russia they Blame for Ridiculous price Hikes. Oh well no worries I just won’t Buy it until the Price Drops I wouldn’t Recommend anyone to Buy this. Yes it Works But why practically double the Price 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😤 Read more

My husband tried it on a sore he had on his cheek. He said it instantly soothed it and couldn't believe it was barely there the day after. It has a very strong smell like carbolic but I like that. It seemed a bit expensive but the tin is much larger than I thought and will last ages and it really does what it says . Even used it on chapped lips and it worked a treat. Read more
