I bought this shower gel because of the smell straight from the bottle. I love pomegranates and seeing how it was a wintry theme (I started using this bottle in December) it just seemed fitting to use this gel during the winter. At least, I'm sure I'm not the only one who associates pomegranates with winter. And it was a decent gel.Pomegranate smells very strongle of pomegranates right out of the bottle. However, it tames up quite a bit when you actually start lathering with it. And if you use it as a bubble bath, well there's no residual smell at all. There's also no smell left on your skin once you've used it to scrub down. Depending on what you like in a shower gel, this could be a good or bad thing. For me, I wish the smell stayed as I don't use a scented lotion and it's the only scent I would be wearing except on those rare days i use perfume. And it's such a nice, sweet smell, I wouldn't mind it sticking around.It does lather nicely. One nickel sized drop onto a poof (pouf? how the heck do you spell it?) is enough to lather and use on my entire body. The same sized drop will produce a good amount of bubbles in the tub and they stick around for awhile so you can take your time and relax. To follow the winter theme, this gel is supposed to containe aloe and oatmeal to soothe dry skin. I can't say I've really noticed that happening at all. I would rate this more as an average gel that just cleans, but then again I don't have skin dryness problems to begin with, so it could be more effective for someone who does. It also doesn't have any exfoliating properties to speak of.Shikai is a natural brand so the ingredients aren't terrible. There's a couple things I can't pronounce in there and there is lauryl sulfate, but the list itself is much smaller in size than that of the comparable conventional products. And some of the ingredients are certified organic, so that's nice. When comparing it to other natural products though, I'd probably rank it about average. I do find it a plus that there is no animal testing done on this product and no animal ingredients, so even the vegetarians out there would be fine with using this product.Not a bad gel. It smelled nice for the first few moments and lathered well. And it also lasted a couple months which made it a good deal for the price.
