I've used a curling iron for years and there's always the issue of where to set the hot iron between curls and after I've finished. I have a heat-proof silicone mat which works fine, but takes up a lot of precious counter space and still wouldn't keep it out of the way of a curious cat or child. Genius little contraption. It works great for my styling wand and traditional clip curlers, and DOES NOT fall over (as some others are concerned about). Yay physics! According to my husband, the style is the same kind of holder for a welding iron, and I think I had something similar for metal smithing in college. Either way, it works really well. Keeps you and your dresser from getting accidentally burnt after you put any styling iron down-which I personally have done. I was initially very ecxited about this product and disappointed to be giving it only 3 stars. It does exactly what it is designed to do and keeps hot tools within easy reach and off the counter top where it could cause damage. However, this product has a major flaw. A little more attention needs to provided in the finishing department. The inside top edge of the "coil" has not been filed down smooth and scratched right through the finish on my brand new curling wand. I bought this product to avoid damaging my counter, not to have it damage another product. Still, I can probably find something or someone who can file the edge down for me. This is sturdy and hold several sizes of hot irons. I have a really skinny flat iron and a really wide one, and it keeps both from touching the counter. It is an upright metal coil on a rubber-coated base. It doesn't fold or get any smaller. (but it doesn't collapse at the wrong time either) I am considering getting some for my sisters. They are currently laying their hot irons on potholders from the kitchen. (The irons can slip off of a potholder, this holds them in one place firmly.)The only drawback that I can see is that the cord could still possibly touch the hot side of the iron if you are not careful. My wife needed a reliable stand for the flat iron so it would NEVER be necessary to lay it on the counter. This holder holds her "CHI" flat iron like it was made for it. It looks good and is heavy enough to always stay upright, but not ridiculously so. This stand was the right price and the right solution for us. I recommend it.
