I was looking for a way to keep my doors from slamming shut when the windows are open (and to make sure my cat doesn't get trapped in one of them while I'm gone) and these do the trick. Putting them on the top of the door frame not only looks better but also prevents them from sliding down the side and you get a bit more control of how much or how little you'd like the door to remain open. So far so good! Saves my little guys (almost 2y) fingers when my special needs (almost 8y) goes on her "go into a room and back out again 15 times" adventures. My little guy doesn't understand that he isn't supposed to put his hand into a closing door yet, and she doesn't understand she isn't supposed to close the door on him. She can get pretty tough with the door too and it hasn't fallen or give way yet, don't expect it too either. It's easy on and off, put it at any hight, saves fingers and keeps her from locking herself into a room! The silicone arrived yellowed and not clear, so it was pretty obvious on our white doors.Other than the aesthetics, it works extremely well. I do not put it on the hinge. It has reduced the annoying noise of our door that swings closed. And my children can quickly put it on or take off easily, and I do not have to worry about it breaking. One of our best toddler safety gadgets! We have purchased several other brands/types of finger catchers, but these are durable and holds it's shape the best. It can be places at either end of the door, where the hinges are, or where the doorknob is, and can be hung on the doorknob when not in use. The thing we like most is that it holds it's shape well. Other finger catchers, after a few uses, we find that we are unable to hang it on the doorknob anymore as the material has stretched, and when we try to hang it on the doorknob, they would just fall over - not this one! We have 2 3-year olds who loves to close the door on each other to keep the other out of the room, so these have been a life-saver. We've become so dependent on this little gadget, we always take it with us on vacations too, just in case someone accidently slams the door & looses a finger. Read more

AMAZING! I'm not sure why anyone would put these in the hinges, despite the packaging saying you can, just put them on the door by the handle and they work PERFECTLY! I received one for free last year and didn't even know they went on the hinge, we just kept them on the door knobs if a door was shut and then put them on the edge of the door when we wanted to prevent baby fingers. They stay so great on the door and the handle and are easily moved back and forth, so much better than the foam animal ones I bought. I've since bought several of these for the rest of the house and these will be my go-to for a long time! Read more

My 28 lb. 3 yr old ripped the door off the hinges by attempting to slam the door shut with this thing in. Yes - her fingers didn’t get pinched. Plastic had yellow tint, as if they were old or had been in smoking environment (which I’m certain they weren’t, since they were in a sealed package).
