These are top notice in my opinion. In fact because of the key requirement these work as a locked safe place for foster licensing. You screw the mechanism to the cabinet door (template provided for placement help), then you affix the grip bar to the inner frame (this did take some practice). When done correctly the door doesn't move an inch. No banging noise, no fingers through the gap. Perfect! You can turn the lock off entirely, say if the child is at school, goes home to mommy & daddy, goes to grandparents for the weekend. Whatever the case may be there is a little switch on the device that allows you to feel like an adult in your own home again.Con:My cabinet doors were too thick for the magnet to de-activate the device. I could get the magnet to affix to the device, but it wasn't powerful enough to pull the switch back and open the door. Granted my cabinet doors are custom made so most people will not have this problem, but make sure to install on a door that you can get to the back of and try it before installing all the locks. These are a great solution if you do not want to see the latch. Also it fixed another problem where other locks require you to open the door a little bit to disengage the latch. Funny thing about little kids is little hands so our girls were able to empty the drawers in the 2-3" gap.We put these on a Pine dresser with about 3/4" thick fronts and the magnet works well though that thickness material. One thing that throws me off when unlocking is there is a few screws in the construction of the dresser and the magnet is attracted to them so sometimes i think i have the magnet in the right spot and i am pulling on it but the latch is not unlocked so you have to come up with a standard location or a special mark to show where to place the magnet key.Installing these suck but if you have installed any other lock system they suck equally with the other ones. They have a little system of sticky back paper to show you where to screw them in but the screws are so small and you are already in a small spot trying to see with a flashlight so no matter what you do it will be a long afternoon to install. Outstanding product. Works exceptionally well. I used it to lock off my bathroom and kitchen cabinets. The only possible downside is that if you use it with cheap furniture like Ikea entertainment centers, the drawers just pop-up and the locks do nothing unless you install a bracing beam or glue down the shelves. Aside of that, these work exceptionally well. The one thing I find useless is the adhesive stickers used to help place the pieces and drill holes. Forget those, as they are useless. Instead, first get a feel for where the locks and latches go, and fold over a tiny thin piece of duct tape or masking tape so that it forms a piece of double sided tap. Now, put a bit on the back of both components, and "stick" them into their proper places. Now they can free-hang, you can mark the drill holes, and then install the screws. If you don't want to cause your cabinets to explode at the edges, I strongly encourage you to drill some 3/32" pilot holes prior to installing the screws. I had some cabinets with cheap compressed particle board that was only 1/2" thick, and if i just installed the screws without pilot holes, it would burst open. Read more
We installed these last night. Some of the reviews said they were a pain to instill. We did not have any issues. They are no more difficult to install then any other locks. Are cabinets are thick and close together so we could not use the other type of locks that you have to stick your finger in to unlock. I was a little worried the magnet would not be strong enough, our doors are solid wood and almost an inch thick, but it definitely is strong enough. The first two we installed on the far side (see pictures) and then realized that made it a little difficult to open because you had to find the lock with one hand and pull with the other. So if I have something in one had I have to put it down. So then we installed them in the middle of the handle and that's perfect. I can hold the key and pull in one motion. On the two that are on the side I put a little pencil mark on the door so I don't have to search around. I'll probably buy a few more keys to keep on each counter. Currently I have it stuck on the refrigerator that just seems to add a few extra steps, which some days I do not have time for anything extra. Read more
These are awesome. We tried the other kind that are cheaper and you have to push them down to release them (safety catches) with our last child and we decided to try something new this time. Last time the cabinets couldn't open fully, but our toddler could get their little hands through the crack that was left by the safety catches. We would find things shoved into the cabinet or little things slipped out (like batteries, etc.)These magnetic closures do not allow for any opening without the key. The magnet is very secure and the door stays tightly snug even when toddlers try to rattle the handles and pull them open. There are times when these are really inconvenient (like unloading the dishwasher) in which case we just use the unlock feature to keep the doors open and allow us to freely access the storage. We did decide to put a small sticker on the outside of the cabinet to be sure we knew exactly where to find the concealed locking unit inside. It has saved a lot of guesswork and frustration.I LOVE THESE and will recommend them to any parent looking for a safe solution. Read more
