Every gal I know who uses menstrual cups loves them. After hearing about it for the umpteenth time, I decided it was time to order one of my own. Saalt comes nicely packaged, with instructions for use and sterilization and a little bag to keep it in. Insertion wasn't horribly difficult. It took a few twists to get it to open, and I leaked a small amount the first hour, but then it was all good. I have very heavy periods, and I had it in for eight hours with no leaks! Color me impressed! After the 8 hours, I get home and go to remove it. It's up there. WAY up there, I can barely feel it. The instructions say not to pull the tab, so I set about trying to pinch the damn cup to get it to un-suction and release. After about ten desperate minutes I'm able to twist it out - no mess, full cup - I dumped, cleaned and replaced. Not so bad, I think, I can do this!I go to a work event, and come back two hours later and try to remove it again. I thought it was up there before, but now it's almost gone. The Saalt cup is latched to my cervix like a starved leech. Try as I might, I cannot get it to come out. I can BARELY reach the cup with my fingers. I pull on the string, no bueno. At this point I'm starting to worry I'll have to go to the ER for the humiliating task of removal. So I call my fiance upstairs and tell him I have a very unfortunate task I need his assistance with. Now we're BOTH trying our damnedest to remove this thing. No luck. He's close to tears. I'm close to tears. The dog is standing nervously in the doorway, unsure how to help. Finally, in a fit of part rage, part distress, I grab the tab and I pull as hard as I can. It feels like it's pulling my entire uterus with it. Right as I'm about to give up hope - POP - it un-suctions and flies out, dropping what can only be described as a bomb of blood all over my bathtub. My fiance almost fell in his hasty retreat from the bathroom. It's been four days, and he still won't look me in the eye.It does what it's supposed to, but at what cost? I'll be experimenting next with the ones that have a hoop for "easy removal."TL;DR - you won't leak for hours, but you'll need the strength of the Hulk or digits like Salad Fingers to remove it. It's also worth mentioning I felt like it, for lack of a better word, "clogged" me up after it got full - maybe my fault for not dumping it throughout the day.EDIT: after a year of use and experimenting with other cups (frankly, this is the only one that does not regularly have leakage), I'm adding the final star. As many others have said, using this cup takes practice. Insertion and removal are both fairly easy (I do sometimes have to fish around, but nothing like before). If you're looking at other cups, just take it from me... this is the best you're gonna get. Read more
I struggled with the Dive Cup, size 2, though upon first glance it should be perfect for me. This, though, was a dream after an online quiz recommended this brand as a better option. I have a more shallow and titled uterus, which caused constant discomfort and leaking with Diva 2, even though I am in my 30s, have delivered 3 times, and have an average flow. Saalt stays in place, even while I use the bathroom—something I could not do with Diva—and also does not leak! So comfortable for both sleep and active workouts, too! Read more
These cups are terrific. Why was this option never taught to girls in heath class? Why is this not a common option in the feminine hygiene aisle? I just started using the Saalt soft and I am giving away all my tampons. I am an older woman with 3 children. I was able to insert on the first try. It was comfortable and didn't leak. Removal was not the terrifying fumbling most people say it is. Day 2 of cycle I felt more confident. Did not go in as easily in the morning. It took me 3 tries to get it in the right place so it was comfortable. After that, worn all day with no worries. There is no guessing what size tampon to use. I hate pulling out a dry tampon. I'm sure that can't be good for your delicate lady parts. All this takes is practice and a certain level of familiarity with your body. Be patient with yourself and know that this switch is the right thing to do for your health and the environment. Read more
I originally started my cup experience with the Lena cup. It pushed against my bladder so I switched to the Lena sensitive. Even then I was uncomfortable. I gave this Saalt cup a try and i am so happy that I did!! It is the most comfortable cup I have ever tried. I no longer feel that I can’t empty my bladder. I don’t feel pressure on my badder at all. It is softer than the Lena sensitive. I love this cup!!!!! I just bought the regular size as well for heavier days. Love love love!!! Read more
I have two menstrual cups in my photos. The pink one is my generic brand cup, the grey one is my saalt cup. I had a hard time selecting a cup due to the lack of information I was able to find about which one would be best for my body type. Here is what I learned:The pink generic cup has been in use for a month (straight. Birth control am I right?) I bought the large size most companies told me to for being a postpartum (14 months), vaginal birth mother. I have a petite figure, so this pink cup was large and clunky. It was hard to get it to seal because of the stiff rubber, and once it completely flipped upside down because I couldn't get it to fit right (so weird). Speaking of stiff rubber I had to trim the "tail" which would occasionally stab at me and was just flat out uncomfortable and sometimes painful, even after being trimmed. But when it did get a good seal it worked fine minus the occasional leakage. I think most of this was due to the size but the material definitely wasn't my favorite either.Compare that to the Saalt brand cup (grey) I just started using. The rubber is much more flexible and comfortable. Even the tail is flexible enough I haven't needed to trim it. It flexes and seals easily. I purchased the smaller size meant for pre-pregnancy, 16-18 year olds this time to see if I could get a better seal, and it made all the difference. So far no leakage. The quality is night and day, and I will definitely be using this one from here on out.I definitely recommend the Saalt brand because of the comfortable material and flexibility. I have also purchased their cup cleaner and it has a lovely orange smell and works great with no residue or irritation. Read more
I was somewhat hesitant when ordering this. I used the Put a Cup in it quiz (worth pointing out that I didn't know my cervix position and I've had a baby) and it directed me to the Saalt Soft. I honestly thought this would be one of those things I buy and would use once because I wouldn't be able to 'work it' right. Wow how wrong was I! It's incredibly easy to use, there are different folds to try and I barely noticed it was there. It's a bit daunting a first because of its size but don't let that put you off. I feel liberated! It's so nice not to be using uncomfortable sanitary products. I honestly can't recommend it enough! I suggest though, using a pad in the early days whilst you get to grips with using it and get to know the positioning etc. Read more
This is an absolute game changer! I have been using amazon for yearly a decade now and this is the first product I feel genuinely compelled to leave a review for. This is my first time using a cup and I can honestly say I am completely converted. I have hesitated for years, to scared of the mess and the fear of discomfort as I have quite painful periods but now I wish I had swapped sooner! I am petite and even struggle with discomfort from some larger tampon brands but with a few wiggles I was able to find a comfortable spot and I haven't looked back since. Not only does it actually work, it's comfortable to wear and the amount of single use plastic and accompanying packaging that I will be saving by swapping over is incredible, it's a complete no brainer. I was also pleasantly surprised when reading through their website that they donate to charities that help eliminate period poverty and raise awareness for feminine health when you purchase a product. Highly recommended if your looking for a more sustainable and ethical option for your periods!Spread the word ladies! Read more
This cup works for me, you need to know yourself as much as you can and understand cups a lot to get one that works really well.I have a high cervix and though this isn’t the longest cup I can reach it to remove in a certain position, which works for me.The stem is a soft kind, some review this as bad but it’s not bad for it’s intended purpose at all, it’s meant to be soft so you cannot feel it by your public bone or creating any friction, for this reason, if you need a firm large stem to grip and wiggle you will find it way too small and soft so this cup & saalt in general isn’t for you! It’s very bendy because the stem isn’t meant to be pulled straight down, you find it, pinch and slowly wiggle left then slowly wiggle right and repeat as you pinch further up the stem until you find the base, once there you reach in further to pinch the base and wait for the suction to release and then wiggle gently to remove the cup.It has 30ml capacity (I got the regular for high cervix) meaning I can have long gaps between changing on my heavy day, once sealed I don’t leak at all nor has it ever unsealed it’s self. I do lots of physical housework and exercise and yoga in my cup, I shower and bathe with it, bowel movements also don’t move it but this could be different for you. For reference I go 12 hours on a light day, and sleep between changes, and go 6-8 hours on a heavy day and sleep between changes (all white sheets but Im not afraid it’s genuinely never let me down once sealed)On the subject of me choosing the regular size, I don’t have a heavy period for more than one day, I’ve not had a baby, I’m 24, I have a high cervix. The small is only 5ml less capacity but the base of the cup sits higher in you so this is why the regular is recommended for higher cervix users. The cup is one of the better to insert as it’s soft and silky. Once in I wait for the pop (Proper seal created) instead of poking around up there, usually happens between 1m and 30m after insertion. Some people do reach up and try to make it happen but this is a softer cup meaning it may not instantly pop open and seal for you. But i find it’s fast enough with low effort from me to work well for me.This cup being soft is good for sensitive bladders or if you’ve had firmer before and felt it when you shouldn’t, mine figuratively disappears once the seal is made, I feel some fullness until it seals. The product itself is great quality silicone, cleans well and feels great, if cups were a thing to show off I would parade around with this grey beauty outside of my body rather than in it 😂. Packaging is all cardboard minus one disk of plastic which is easily removed for recycling. Read more
Already better than my moon cup. More comfortable, more secure. I thought my age was the issue, with my body changing. It might well be changing, but this cup is waaaay better suited to me now. I cannot feel it in place at all, and it is standing up to my heaviest day like a champ. Read more
First time cup user here! My only regret is not trying one sooner, this thing is a game changer!I'm 29, never had children, and have been using pads up until now as I've found tampons uncomfortable. I took the Put a Cup in it quiz, and this cup was recommended for me due to my low cervix. I bought the small grey version.- Great for a low cervix- Comfortable to wear (you won't feel it after a few mins)- Easy to insert- Perfect for a moderate flow- Change twice a dayI used this cup with some leakproof period underwear for extra protection, however the cup did not leak at all! Although it sometimes felt like it could be leaking, this never actually happened, and I got used to this feeling shortly after.I found that changing it twice a day (morning and evening) worked absolutely fine for me, even during my heaviest days (I have a light / moderate flow due to the pill). Simply wash it out in the shower using shower gel.Ditching traditional pads / tampons has been extremely liberating, and much better for the environment. The company (Saalt) also do some great stuff for charity,I've been recommending the cup to all my girl friends, this is seriously one of the best purchases I've ever made! Read more
