I have just received this dryer Model# B0D04 - which has a sticker after this number ("RG1/3") - I have not found out what that means - but this dryer in no way can adjust 4 1/2 inches, or at all. The picture on the box shows an additional piece at the bottom of the column but it apparently has been modified. After reading a comment I think the mfg changed it because of instability or breakage at that point. I will add a comment on the main purpose (drying my hair) after I use it, but have checked the heat control and the hottest place is just behind the top of your head. There is an adequate significant difference in the heat levels, and the cool setting confirms that the main "fan" is just behind the top of your head as noted.UPDATE: Have used this dryer once now and have updated to 4 stars for performance in drying hair. It took a bit of time to figure out the right place to use it but zoned in on setting it on the kitchen table and adjusting the height of my chair. I do not use huge rollers, my hair is not long, but fairly thick. Time was about 30 minutes, and I lowered it to medium heat after 20 minutes. Of course it makes noise - but for me was ok. And so nice not to have to hold a blow dryer!My only caution is to be very careful when opening and closing this unit - slip the back part under the tab before closing the snap piece on the front. I don't usually write reviews but had to with this hooded hairdryer. I'm used it for the first time today and simply love it. It's very compact and easy to store. I previously had one of those hairdryers on the stand. It took up too much space and wasn't very sturdy. I have a bar height dining table with bar stools and it works just fine. I like that has several heat settings. I had to turn temp down a few times as it got too hot. Large hood good allows air to circulate and dry hair throughly. It is noisy but that's to be expected. This dryer is not bad. For my first use I was really impressed that it dried my hair so quickly. My only complaint is that the material used is really cheap plastic. I really feel like I need to be very careful opening and closing it in fear that I may break it. Overall the drying part is great. Read more

It took me awhile to figure out how to raise the hood, it’s very simple. Grab both sides at the base and push up, when dryer is cold. It’s worth the money, drys faster than my 1200 watt, made less sound than my other dryer and I save money not paying someone to roll and set my hair. Read more
