# My ReviewThis review is for the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Make Up Remover. As someone who’s got extremely sensitive skin, I’m always on the lookout for cleansers and make-up removers that help prevent and reduce flare-ups. Therefore, I’m always curious to try new options and experience the benefits to my overall well-being. My doctor and dermatologist continue to recommend fragrance free, chemical free and as natural as possible solutions to minimize the reactions that are often triggered when I use certain types of products. So, when I saw this make-up remover, I thought I’d give it a try!First of all, the make-up remover comes packaged in a simple looking bottle that’s compact in design and easily identifiable. The bottle is clear with the Philosophy brand well labelled with clear descriptions. I was extremely confused and thought there was something wrong with the solution as the clear bottle showed how the water-based ingredients (cornflower nectar and chamomile water) separated from the oil based ingredients to leave two separated parts! I later found out that this is how the solution is formulated and you need to shake the bottle vigorously before each use to make it most effective in removing make-up.As described, the solution removes make-up smoothly and doesn’t feel harsh or abrasive. The formula is very light with a sweet fragrance and once applied on the face using a cotton ball, it absorbs and wipes clean over the applied areas. Once used, it did leave an oily residue, however once followed-up with a cleanser & moisturizer you don't really notice it. I think this oily residue is deliberate by design due to the 5 step routine that should be followed when using this product (discussed below). So far, this works as described!One thing to note is that this product is part of a 5 step Philosophy Purity routine: Step 1: REMOVE MAKEUP, Step 2: CLEANSE, Step 3: MASK, Step 4: MOISTURIZE, Step 5: EYE. I didn’t follow this routine.Overall, this is a good make-up remover which is at a higher price-point than other well-known brands, however it works well to remove make-up, dirt and grime after a long day. This makeup remover does its job and does it well. It completely removes even the hardest to remove waterproof and long-wear eye and face makeup. It is scent free, gentle, and non-irritating for the eyes. I feel that whether it’s a remover for you will depend on how do you feel about oil in makeup removers.This make up remover comes in a plastic bottle. Because it contains oil that naturally goes to the bottom of the bottle it needs to be well shaken before each use. Even if you shake it, put it down for a moment, and then decide to get more, you will need to shake it again to fully mix the product. The opening in the bottle is of an appropriate size to easily dispense the required amount into the cotton round.After removing makeup with this product my face feels oily and needs to be well washed with a cleanser. I also use a clean cotton round with warm water to remove the oil residue from my eye lids before applying the eye serum. I have combination skin with quite oily t-zone but I haven’t noticed any skin problems or increased oiliness or shine since starting to use this product.I don’t use hard to remove makeup often so personally I prefer and find non-oily removers more convenient for me, and I won’t be repurchasing this one. However, if you use waterproof or other hard to remove makeup often, or prefer oil based removers I do recommend this one because of how well it works and its gentleness and non eye irritating qualities. I am now in my late 40’s and was lookingfor a makeup remover that didn’t feel like it was stripping my skin of all its nutrients. I decided totry this makeup remover by philosophy purity made simple, and I am glad I did.First, this makeup remover really does the job it claims to. It has a nice light scent and is verygentle on my skin. I do wear foundation and powder and all the regular makeup products mostpeople use, and I feel like this makeup remover really removes all my makeup rather well. It is alittle oily, which may bother some, but for me, it feels gentle and soft and my skin feelspampered and nourished instead of stripped. I understand that the oiliness of some productscan make many think it does not work or will clog one’s skin, but that is not the case with thisproduct. I do follow up with cleansing my skin and have discovered that most of the makeupand dirt gets removed with this remover. At the time of this review, the price for this is listed ataround $26.00. Skin is a very individual thing, but my experience with this makeup remover is that this product is both effective and kind to your face.This is a “bi-phase” makeup remover, meaning it relies on oil to remove the makeup (really, oil is the only thing that WILL remove waterproof makeup) and an additional ingredient (a “milk”) to calm the skin. If you study the picture of the product, you will see that the liquid separates into two separate layers. Shake before using, to mix the layers together. It separates again after using, so you may want to do this each time.It removes waterproof makeup, as advertised. It left the skin a little oily—because you have to have the oil. But a quick wipe, and that was gone. And after using, the skin felt cleaner—a refreshing feel, thanks to the chamomile. No eye or skin irritation.Worth the money for a premium product. Read more
