My rating is for the wonderful design of the product (and not its marginal durabilty). This is my 3rd unit of the Oster (Sunbeam has one also) version and I am resigned to an approximate 2 year replacement cycle. Back to the design: can't find anything better for my needs at home and I've used many different hair dryers in my travels. Too bad a different vendor with more care for durabilty (a plastic fan blade breaks loose after about 2 years of normal use, causing an awful racket) takes over the manufacturing...they would sell a lot more with a better reputation! I ordered and re-ordered this dryer for the third time and now I am just fed up with Oster. Their dryer is made to last approximately 1 1/2 years or less. This is a piece of junk. Do not order this dryer and save yourself the time and frustration of installation and re-installation on the wall. Also, it has now been discontinued and replaced, likely due to this issue, who knows but I don't care anymore. Moving along to another more reliable brand. Read more
I've been using this type of Sunbeam/Oster hair dryer for about 12 years. The dryer comes with instructions to mount the bracket on drywall using screws and anchors (included), but I mounted my bracket on a wooden cabinet instead. I'll walk you through it.I took the bracket to my local hardware store. The store had screws for wood and sheet metal in even sizes (e.g. #8, #10, #12, etc.), and the largest size that fit the holes was #10, so I bought three #10 × 1/2" long screws. As a detail, I could have bought wood screws, but instead, I bought sheet metal screws that were basically identical but 18-8 stainless steel (this is my fetish). The main thing is I bought three #10 × 1/2" screws with pan heads (not flat heads). For hardwood, a 1/8" pilot hole would let #10 threads bite the wood without spreading the wood, but my cabinet is soft wood (probably pine), so I drilled 3/32" pilot holes instead (using a pin vise), being careful to drill only 1/2" deep (so I would not drill through to the other side of the wood). The screws bit nicely into the soft wood, drawing the bracket firmly to the wood surface. Finally, I placed the hair dryer unit on the bracket, and I pushed it down to snap it into its final position. My photos show I made two sets of holes in my cabinet. The upper set of holes worked with three Sunbeam 1632-020 dryers, and the lower set of holes worked with two Oster 76832-710 dryers that have a slightly shorter power cord. The dryer base covers all the holes. Read more
I have purchased 4 of these units for basic home use and they keep breaking the same way. somehow during normal use, the internalsl on the hand unit fall apart inside the unit and completely fail. It's a defective design and I'm sure it's not some fluke or one-off bad unit, because I've gone through 4 units and they have all failed the exact same way. I took it apart out of curiosity to see what was responsible for the horrible rattling noise. It's the cheap plastic fan attached to the motor. All six fins failed on my latest unit (see pics)...and no it wasn't dropped or abused in any way. Others made similar noise when they failed, so it was probably the same part that failed in those too. Damn Oster!...You goin out like this? Read more
OK, I have two of these 'Oster Professional 76932-710' mounted in a couple of bathrooms. I use one in the 'Master' bathroom daily. I wanted to install a third 'Oster Professional 76932-710' in my third bathroom so I ordered one a couple of weeks ago. So here is my gripe - the coiled cord on the NEWEST hair dryer which I just installed is a different material (or construction) from the previous TWO which I have had for several years. The NEW coiled cord is so stiff and inflexible that you will have a difficult time stretching out the blower from the wall mount. Very different from the previous two older models which have very flexible coiled cords. Nope, I don't like the new 'Oster Professional 76932-710' that I just purchased, it is not user friendly. I have had this same unit for years and loved it but they have shortened the wire from the base to the outlet by several inches and the new unit will not reach my out let. Part of the reason that I purchased this particular dryer was so I wouldn't have to put more holes in my wall and could just hang it on the place my old one. This dryer is meant to hang and it’s impractical to use it any other way. I’m not sure if the cord length was in description but I wouldn’t have purchased this had I known the cord was shortened. I had brought this dryer with me from my former house but the placement of outlet, mirror etc just doesn’t let me use it where I now live. I’m not sure it’s worth moving the outlet or having electrician lengthen the cord. Read more
Not a jet-engine powerful salon dryer, but more than adequate for daily use. I've been using these for many years under the Sunbeam brand. As another reviewer mentioned, these last about two years and have to be replaced, (just after the warranty expires). This is the first time I replaced a Sunbeam with an Oster. Same machine. The Sunbeam had a nightlight on the bottom, (which I had switched off), that the Oster lacks. No biggie. I'm pleased to report that the Oster fits the Sunbeam mounting bracket, so mounting was easy. I also like that there's a hidden switch that allows it to be operated at either 1200W or 1500W. Quibbles? Yeah, a couple. The printing on the lint screen that says, "Oster Professional" is slightly askew, and the Oster cord is 5.5 inches shorter than the old Sunbeam, requiring me to move the cord clips on the drywall, patch the holes and paint. Annoying. Read more
