Find out how quickly your body recovers from exercise - and what you can do about it. The Recovery and Renewal DNA Test is a 3-gene profile that reveals how well your cells reduce damage and how quickly they bounce back after exercise. Do your genes protect you from the damage exercise can cause? Is your body adept at repairing exercise-induced inflammation? How quickly - or slowly - do you recover after an intense workout? These are some of the things you may discover about yourself with the Recovery & Renewal DNA Test. NOTE: The Recovery & Renewal DNA Test is a subset of the more complete Fitness and Beauty DNA Tests. Contains 3 genes including: cell repair (SOD2), cellular health (NFE2L2), and exercise recovery (IL-6).

I've done other DNA tests and all have been amazing... Until now. After receiving my kit and sending in the sample, I received confirmation that my sample had been received and that processing would begin immediately.A month later I asked about the results and was told more time was needed although a partial report had already been created. Two months later and I'm told the lab is now backed up.A week after that I'm told a new swab is needed and will be shipped out. It's now two and a half months since they received the first sample and I have neither a new swab nor a report.I initiated all communications, which is horrible customer service, and while they have been responsive, the answers went from almost done to a new sample is needed. This has scam written all over it. Read more

Submitted my test in mid november. Here we are end of January and still nothing. Have been told for a month now it's almost ready. Won't be buying an Orig3n product again.Update: it's now mid february and the company emailed me saying they need a whole new sample (even though i followed the instructions to a tee) then they mailed the kit to the wrong address. Highly suggest not wasting your time.Update: Finally got the new kit a week into March. Here we go all over again. Only been 5 months. I'm trusting these people with my DNA?It is now end of May 2019. About 7 months after they began processing my sample. I just got my results. So i waited 7 months and sent in two samples to get 6 results. This test only tells you about 6 traits. SMH. Don't buy this test. Total waste of time and money. Read more

This expensive test gives you results of 24 different gene pairs. Calling this genotyping is a huge stretch. The information provided on each gene is sparse and redundant. At least for your efforts you are required to give them much personal information (every field is *required* on their web site including birth date, address, and phone number), so you can look forward to a future of being banned from insurance if one of the 24 is not ideal or if there is something more in the unlikely event that they mapped more than the 24 genes. Protect yourself by giving them bogus data and not using their app for the 20 minutes it will take you to read their report or, better yet, not buying.Full list of gene pairs as described by ORIG3N:ORIOA2 Cilantro AversionCYP1A2 Caffeine MetabolismTAS2R38 Bitter Taste (Part 1)ALDH2 Alcohol ToleranceTAS2R38 Bitter Taste (Part 2)MCM6 Lactose IntoleranceTAS2R38 Bitter Taste (Part 3)PPARg Monounsaturated FatKCTDIO Cholesterol and LipidsFADS1 Fatty Acid ResponseFTO Feeling FullSLC2A2 Sweet ToothADIPOQ Weight RegainDRD2 Food RewardLEPR AppetiteMC4R ObesityNMB HungerMTHFR Folate LevelsNBPF3 Vitamin B6RSU1 Vitamin ESLC23A1 Vitamin CFUT2 Vitamin B12BCM01 Beta Carotene, Vitamin AGC Vitamin D Read more

I've taken a number of genetic tests, both for ancestry and for health: I have taken the  23andMe DNA Test - Health + Ancestry  test, the  AncestryDNA: Genetic Testing - DNA Ancestry Test Kit , the National Geographic’s Genographic Project and I've had a physician direct health related genetic test (which included working with a genetic counselor). I've have a reasonable understanding of what kinds of information you can infer from these tests and I'm aware of their limitations. Of all these I found the Orig3n test the lest compelling. Why? Well while it's slick, well packaged, and you get fast results, I think they are vastly overstating the efficacy of their test results on your health. Just because you have a variant on a single gene doesn't really tell you a lot because most traits are result of the interaction of many genes. And we know from epigenetics that gene expression is as important as the gene itself (think of each gene as having a volume switch that goes from "off" to "full blast"). Which isn't to say all the test results they provide are useless, but given the amount of genes tested and the current state of genetic science much of what they are telling you is for entertainment purposes only.In my particular case I am very doubtful about the physical fitness test results being provided. At one point in my military career I was part of a pilot program to more deeply evaluate individual fitness. From that testing I was given feedback on the types fitness program that would benefit me the most. A fair amount of my Orig3n test ran counter to that diagnostic fitness testing. Now while my feedback is pretty negative I wouldn't complete discourage you from taking this test. It's cheap, it's kind of fun, and gives you information you didn't have. I would not make any major changes to your fitness program based on it. Instead think of it as something for fun and entertainment. Not something to build an exercise program around. If you are just starting out I'd recommend the National Geographic test for "deep ancestry", Ancestry.com's test if your motivation is genealogy research, and 23andme for a mix of all the above plus some health testing. Amazon can be a blessing and a curse for smaller companies... THe promotion run here initially overwhelmed Orig3n lab and hence the response time was sub-optimal. Company has since fixed that issue and is VERY responsive and courteous. What I like about Orig3n is that you cover the "lighter" side of genetics and don't compete with players such as 23 and me in areas such as hereditary disease. That certainly alleviates concerns with days privacy and such. I also like the textual summaries in the reports as well as the percentile comparison with the rest of the population. Some very useful scientific background provided. If you are about self-improvement or just wanted to confirm some assumptions you have always had about your talents and shortcomings, here is a good start.
