This compact came in a cushioned package to keep the glass safe. The case itself is black and made of a hard plastic feeling material so it feels pretty sturdy. It is a black compact, which on the bottom, contains a panel in which there are two CR2032 batteries. There is a tiny switch underneath the bottom of the compact to turn on the light. The compact contains two mirrors, the regular magnification mirror, in which you can do your makeup or what have you, and the 10x magnification mirror, which in the picture, is the mirror on the bottom, as I have not removed the sticker yet. (haha) This mirror is wonderful. I can see all of my stray eyebrow hairs and easily pluck them because of the light. This compact is affordable and super adorable. I definitely recommend this because the light makes it so much easier to see any stray hairs or blemishes. The light is pretty powerful and I was able to use the compact in a shadowed room with the light from the compact. I was able to see pretty easily. I have had mirror compacts before, but I have only had one mirror in the last one I had. The fact that this has two , the regular and the 10x magnifier makes it so much easier to do my beauty care routine without leaning over the bathroom sink to see myself up close in the mirror. I purchased this because of the lights around the hand held mirror. Once I opened it and flipped the switch it worked great. I then turned it off and it has not worked consistently since. I replaced the batteries. I slide the switch to the on side, NOTHING. I started pressing around the edges, and the light would go on. I let go and the lights went off. So the only way I can get it to light up is to "pinch" the edge of the mirror and hope it stays lit.I recommend you keep looking.BTW: I found a lighted magnifying mirror in Bed, Bath & Beyond. My first mirror arrived and the hinge that held both pieces together was loose and it made the compact wiggly. I figured "Oh Well" for the price I will keep it. I was contacted by the seller just for a follow up and I told them the issue. They were so accommodating. They offered me a new compact or a refund. I chose a new compact. When I opened the box, it was beautifully packaged . Now, that gave me a good feeling . Is the package important ? I believe it is . The company put thought into the packaging , they created a lovely first impression . It made it exciting to unwrap . The mirror is compact , sleek and gorgeous .. When you open it, it stays open on the counter to give you hands free to go make up or use tweezers. It is the perfect size , lightweight yet sturdy . It obviously does its intended purpose but the thing that makes me disappointed/irritated is that when you open the mirror- The 10x mirror is what you see first and the ring light with 1x is at the bottom. You'd assume it'll be switched. It can be fixed by simply flipping it but it's just dumb to me. When we travel, if we get to travel again, I want to be ready. We try to keep to carry on no matter where we go. Personally, I think a lighted magnifying mirror is essential. I got this mirror the next day the light started flickering and I thought it was maybe the battery. Once I opened the cover the battery fell out right away and would no longer fit in place and the cover wouldn’t close.. I contacted customer service and they were GREAT. I'm new to the whole makeup shebang and I didn't want to spend a whole lot on a makeup mirror when I wasn't even sure my efforts would be worthwhile. I ordered this instead - it's small enough to hold in my hand with a tube of concealer, and yet strong enough that I don't have to strain to see. The light is very, very bright - bright enough that you have to give your eyes a second to adjust. It's a little larger than I expected, but maybe I just have small hands. That is exactly what I was looking for. It's sturdy enough that I could take it to work if I wanted. My only problem is that the little door to the battery compartment doesn't close tight. This is easily solved with a small piece of tape and not worth downgrading the rating. Shipping was delayed due to various acceptable reasons (duh, Black Friday plus Covid equals delays), but I still got an email from the seller just to touch base.
