I've loved nutritional yeast for a few years now, since going vegan. Last year though, I was diagnosed homozygous for the MTHFR gene mutation. This means I can no longer ingest folic acid. I was beyond excited to find Sari's Non-Fortified Nutritional Yeast! I have only had Red Star yeast to compare to Sari. The taste is the same. Sari's is a bit less flaky and more ground, from what I can recall of 5 Star. I prefer the smaller particles because I can put it in a shaker. I'm so thankful for this yeast. With so much folic acid added to everything that I now can't consume, I'm just thrilled to have yeast back. I put it on everything from salads to pasta, to potatoes to popcorn. The nooch itself seemed fine. It was a powder, not large flakes like I’m used to, but it worked for what I needed it for, until I noticed pieces of wood mixed in. There were chunks of dark wood randomly mixed in with the nooch. As if something had accidentally gotten into a processing machine. But they were big enough that if there was any type of quality control, they would have been noticed. Amazon gave me my money back already, but I wanted to warn others. I bought this more for my cats than myself. I had been using another brand of nooch and although the consensus of the sites I read was that it is fine for cats I did not like its bright, artificial-looking color and overdose of synthetic vitamins. It seemed like a lot even for a human so I was concerned about long-term use for cats. Nevertheless, it really helped my picky cat eat more food options and take necessary food additives so I knew I had to find a way to work around the drawbacks.Sari Foods fits the bill exquisitely. It is so tasty I have to keep it shut in the pantry on a high shelf or the cats will break into the bag. Unlike the previous product, I have to put at least a little on all the food dishes or the cats without Sari will actually leave their bowls to find one that has it once they smell it. It also comes in a very generous size and is filled to the absolute brim of the bag - no air which is so rare in packaging these days! It is not a beige color unlike the electric yellow I usually see which makes it obvious there are unnecessary things left out of this product as they should be.I am very pleased with this product and will gladly return to Sari Foods when I need more. This is an excellent grade of nutritional yeast. My wife is vegan because of health matters; of which, she is doing very good. Too many times, taste and "normal" meals are out of reach. Not when using this particular nutritional yeast. The taste is delicious. Last night we ate gluten-free pasta (Jovial is the best) with alfredo sauce (SARI nutritional yeast), with fresh basil and tomatoes. It was gluten-free, egg free, soy free, dairy free, nut free, & on; yet, the dish tasted as genuine as any homemade or Italian restaurant could ever achieve. It's the first time we buy nutritional yeast so I cannot compare with other products. But we all love this one. This product has a mild and subtle flavor, which is what I like for salads. It adds flavor but still allows you to taste the main ingredients. It's like cheese without the milk smell, perfect for people who don't like milk (such as my children). I experienced the taste of your nutritional yeast when I was visiting friends in North Carolina. What a difference in taste between this and other nutritional yeast! I most definitely feel the nutritional benefits of this "yummy noosh" as we call it. And the recipe book is divine! I can hardly wait to start making some of the dishes. So I started a keto diet less than 2 weeks ago and eventually came down with the infamous 'keto flu' now a doctor I've come to admire is Dr Berg who advocates the keto diet on YouTube and he is a big proponent of Nutritional Yeast. At first I thought I'd get by without it but as the days went along I became more sluggish in the keto adaptation stage, and then I remembered Dr Berg talking about Nutritional Yeast. Lucky for me the brand he was advocating was this exact one, no brainer! I received it the day after I ordered it and at first I ate a straight teaspoon of it but it just stuck to my mouth, and then I mixed it with water the second time and it dissolved like a treat. Having used Engevita flakes for years and being used to the addictively delicious savoury cheesy taste, I was quite disappointed by this brand. In comparison the flavour is a lot more mild and no where near as tasty. It's not moreish and satisfying like Engevita. It's also finer, more of a powder rather than the big chunky flakes. It's ridiculously expensive. A bag only lasts me two weeks, so I'm basically spending £8/week!! (Unfortunately I'm on a very restricted diet for my health issues and can't have any other condiments so I use this a lot! It's also the only source of molybdenum on a diet that is legume and grain free). Why does it cost more when there are less added ingredients? I'm having to use this brand as unfortunately after genetic testing I found out that I am one of those people who is a poor methylator and who may have trouble clearing out synthetic folic acid from my body, potentially leading to a toxic build up. Well, I'm already housebound with M.E and am now trying to fight candida overgrowth and SIBO, so I can't risk adding a toxic build up of synthetic folic acid to my already over burdened body! (Who knows, that could already be a contributing factor). This was amazingly the ONLY brand of nutritional yeast I could find with no added synthetic ingredients! It's already a great source of naturally occuring B vitamins and folate, so it's deeply frustrating that other brands feel the need to add synthetic vitamins which are ultimately harmful. I hope other companies will cotton on to this and follow suit with all natural options. I will begrudgingly continue to use this brand for now, but will be only the look out for a more affordable option that doesn't break the bank! Read more

This tastes great. For me it is a very good source of B vitamins, which makes me feel more sharp and more energetic and more clear headed. If you’re not sure which nutritional yeast to choose then choose this one, you won’t regret. Top quality item. But you can also buy it from the producing company where you end up paying about £37 (including postage) for 24oz. Instead of £16 for 8oz. A week ago I never knew or had heard about this. Then after deep diving on nutritional videos on YouTube they were all recommending this. Didn't look too appetising and was suspect when people said it 'tasted like cheese' but it actually is quite cheesy! I like the taste and it is gentle enough to blend in well on the salad and sweet potatoes fries I sprinkled them on. Time will tell if I notice any health benefits but I am very happy so far. Obviously, the best source of most of the B vitamins in their full respective complexes. I've tried a few other brands and this wins hands-down on flavour. Getting off the Metformin once and for all and controlling my blood sugars through diet and exercise alone. No carbs or sugar and minimal protein or fats from animal sources so I need to source nutrients and amino acids via supplements. This gives you a good spread of the above nutrients, plus a good hit of protein, but not enough to take you out of ketosis. Makes a pretty good cheese sauce too. Yes, it's a bit pricey but you do get what you pay for. The value is in it's quality and this is a quality product that'll have a permanent place in my cupboard from now on. Read more
