My little girl has slept fine with no nightlight until recently when she started having bad dreams. When I went shopping for a nightlight for her a lot of them were battery operated or had timers that shut off or were just lame. This lamp is way cooler, plugs into the wall and with a 25 watt LED bulb in gives off just the right amount of light and costs next to nothing to leave on all night.***I would never use this, or any other lamp, as an all-night light with a lightbulb that gives off any heat or that could be dangerous. If you're going to have it running for prolonged periods get an LED soft white bulb. They're a little more expensive but last forever, are far safer and use very little energy.*** Read more

This item was not what I expected. All of the NoJo Ahoy Mate items I have purchase were high quality. This lamp is very cheap. The shade doesn't let light pass through it, so this is more of a night light than a usuable light. It does work well at night when you wake up to check the baby right after you were sleeping, but I normally have to turn on a second light to see what I am doing. The max light bulb you can put in this lamp is a 40 watt I.E. 10 Watt CFL bulb. Which are a very short bulb. If you try to put in a larger bulb the bulb sticks out of the top of the lamp and is very unattractive. I also tried to put in a daylight 40 Watt CFL light bulb but the lamp hums with an annoying sound if you try to put in a higher quality light. This is due to the cheap wiring and socket job. I wouldn't purchase this lamp again. The only reason I kept it was due to the return shipping I was going to loose when sending it back. Read more

This is GORGEOUS!! I needed an extra lamp for the spare room my granddaughters use. First, lavender was hard to find and if I did find it, the lamp was ugly. I happened to see this and crossed my fingers. (Was afraid it might be one of those "mini" lamps). It's the perfect size for the round table in the bedroom where I have a purple table cloth. The table sits higher than a nightstand so the lamp really shows off and looks pretty. I have a taller lamp on the night stand but this would work okay. This lamp is worth every penny. We happened to find it on Amazon.com since Babies'r'Us no longer sold it, even though they carry the rest of the Beautiful Butterfly items. It completed our nursery beautifully and we have used it more than anything else in the room. It has been great for late night feedings, diaper changes, a lower-light option for bedtime routine. I spent $40 on this lamp and expected it to be "new" as I ordered it that way. I opened the box and realized that one of the brown "ear" things on the giraffe is completely missing. I searched the box for the little piece that was missing but realized it didn't even break off so I couldn't glue it back off. There is no piece in the box which makes me think that it was made without a second "ear" and I honestly don't have time to go through the return process and am annoyed with this because this is the first purchase I've ever received from amazon where I wasn't completely satisfied. I would expect the company to inspect their product before shipping it out to loyal customers. Read more

This is a great lamp. It's super cute and not what I expected. The base is fairly heavy which is nice, so I don't have to worry about me (or my kids) accidentally bumping the table it's on and having the whole lamp fall over. With the suggested 40 watt bulb the brightness is perfect, and the shade has nice detail when lit up. The color is nice, and the flowers on the base are not flat, but raised which is a nice touch. The one thing I wish was a little different is the on/off switch. It's a rod that just slides side-to-side and the click it makes when it is being turned on/off is a little louder than I like, but my 5 week-old seems to sleep through it fine.
