Some types of chemotherapy cause neuropathy (numbness) in the feet. These slippers may help counteract that as well as prevent toenail damage from chemo. Your doctor will tell you how many minutes to use these slippers before and/or during chemo. Wear socks to prevent over-chilling. I have just begun using these gel packs, so I will need several months to fully evaluate them. I have not tried them warmed up yet, just frozen. They are so nice for achy feet, I put them on after I have gone for a long run, and just to cool off with out cranking up the A/C. These worked great after my foot surgery. I had 4 inch incisions on the top of each foot. It was very difficult to keep regular ice packs on my feet. I purchased these and the game changed! I purchased these to prevent possible neuropathy of my feet during Taxol chemotherapy. They have been extremely effective in keeping my feet chilled (wearing socks helps) for the hour of infusion. There is any number of reasons my feet could be feeling hot every few months - ringworm, eczema, diabetes, diet, climate etc i have no idea i can only speculate - but these slippers allow me to ease that discomfort when it happens - careful though, if you forget and put them in the freezer for longer than it recommends its really difficult getting your feet inside and most of the time the tops of your feet wont fully fit inside them - i don't have very big feet either. This doesn't really matter in the end though because you can just flip them around and juggle them onto the parts you want cold or 'stand' on the exposed parts of your skin. You wont be able to wear them for a long duration - you'll find yourself constantly taking them off and on again because its too cold - not to worry, your feet will feel better pretty quickly.
