I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews for this. I understand it's probably different than the model before and change is hard, but it's still a great diaper pail. Some of the reviews complain that the sealing mechanism at the top of the bag doesn't seal after there are a few diapers in the container. You don't have the bag adjusted right. With the refill ring, you have to knot the bottom of the bag and make sure that a couple inches of bag ABOVE the knot is touching the bottom of the pail. (SEE PHOTO.) Then the weight of the diapers is sitting on the bottom of the pail and not pulling down on the closing mechanism. It doesn't waste any bag, because you're still only cutting off whatever portion is full of diapers and then pulling the extra down to use next time. Some of the reviews complain about how this does not contain smell. Without fail, little one always poops in the first diaper after I've changed the bag in the pail. I still put the poopy diaper in the pail even though I know it's going to sit there for a while before it gets emptied again. There's never any smell. When I change the bag, I put the used portion into our kitchen trashcan (where it sometimes sits for a bit, too) and then the trash just smells like the Arm & Hammer smell of the bags - not dirty diapers. I love that both the bags and the disc help control the odor. If you buy a different brand refill ring, that might be part of the problem, too. Some of the reviews complain that you have to empty the thing a lot. Despite the fact that I don't have any problems with smell, I can imagine the probability of the used diaper smell escaping increases with every day you don't empty it. I'm glad it forces me to change the bag every couple days so I keep the smell from becoming a problem. Some of the reviews complain that you have to push the diaper through the sealing mechanism. Get over it. You're washing your hands after you change the baby anyway. Some of the reviews complain that you have to push the lid of the container down after you put the diaper in. This is how the pail closes the sealing mechanism. Pushing the lid down allows it to reseal with more force. I would rather have to push the lid down and get a good seal than not close the lid and risk dirty diaper smell. This is my first diaper pail, but I use the one at my friends' house when I babysit their kids. They have one of the old school ones where you put the diaper in this little cup thing and then pull the handle down/up to transfer the diaper to the pail. You still have to push something down (lever vs. lid) and the smell gets through on that one. (Although there's no Arm & Hammer associated with that, so maybe that's the difference too.)Overall, I think this is a really great diaper pail. It's really unobtrusive and it might cost a few dollars more than its competitors, but if I had to go back and buy a diaper pail again, I would still get this one. Read more

I wanted to wait before posting a review so I am sure about the experience. I purchased this because I was looking for a way to store dog poops. Yes, you read well, I live in a sparkling community and I couldn’t dispose of the poops, needless to say, I was not ready to store them in my garage (Florida) waiting for garbage disposal twice a week. So I installed this bin in a covered area outside. My dogs are both 85 pounds, it gives you an idea of the volume...Anyway, I took a chance on this. After reading multiple reviews, I understood few things : you have to make sure the bag is installed properly, with the bottom laying flat (about 2 inches).Second point: it is important to replace the baking soda on the lid (I do it every 6 weeks).Third, I added 2 small pouches of charcoal (just to be extra sure).Twice a week, the bin is fully cleaned while I change the bags.God! It works!!!!! Even when I change the bag there is NO ODOR, I don’t even believe it myself. The charcoal helps, because before there was a small odor.Anyway, this is my greatest buy and the only way to store my dogs poops. I might edit this review in the summer though, but it went fine since early September + October and now end of November. Read more

Love this diaper pail. We used to use a regular garbage can until starting solids, when the smell was just too much. This container really does lock the smell in, and it's easy to use. The proprietary bag refills are insanely expensive and a total ripoff. You can DIY them yourself. Just buy high quality, Arm and Hammer scented drawstring garbage bags, tighten the drawstring, and feed it into the refill ring and secure it. Works perfectly and holds WAY more diapers and is cheap. Let's start with the important stuff... There is no detectable odor anywhere near the pail even after a full load of multiple days. We haven't run through our initial arm and hammer deodorizer insert yet though. Those are pricey. DO NOT be fooled by amazon's "frequently bought together with" bar that pops up when you buy this. The little mini deodorizers are not the ones you want. We found out the hard way and now have to find a UPS drop box to send them back... The replacements are called "pucks" and can be bought on Amazon for $5 or directly from munchkin for $4 (free shipping from them for $25+.).Update: Originally we bought two of these and after 18 months the second one just died. As you close the lid a set of gears tighten up the top of the bag to prevent odor from getting out. These gears are plastic and they wear pretty quickly. We thought the first one died because we were closing it with the bag too full but we babied the second one and it died just as quickly. If it’s any indication just how great of how well it works, when it’s working..., I’m on here spending another $70 on a third one. Definitely knocking a star off though... There is definitely room in the market for someone to make one of these that is equal on odor elimination but lasts more than 9 months... Read more

This is by far the best thought out diaper pail I've ever seen.1. It uses rings that hold a giant tube of diaper pail bag.2. It has built in bag cutter knife so that when your pail is 'full', you simply pull more bag from the ring and cut it with the built in bag cutter. Why is this useful ? Well, if you are used to having fixed bags you replace....meaning you buy a pack of bags and when one is full, you get a new bag and put it in....then this pail will change your life. What this one allows you to do is basically customize the size of bag you want. Does your toddler or baby all of a sudden have really terrible smelly diapers ? No problem....just cut it off, tie it,...and create new empty fresh bag....you could do this literally every 5-10 diapers if you want instead of the 25-30 you are doing now since you don't want to 'waste' a bag.3. This thing automatically twists the bag everyone time you close the lid so when you lift it next, it won't woft you in the face with the smell of an outhouse. This really is the secret sauce to this whole pail.4. When you close the lid, it has a built in Arm and Hammer scent pod that goes right into where you put diapers so it locks in smell and any smell that escapes, is neutralized with Arm and Hammer puck.If you are looking for first diaper pail, I can understand you are looking around....don't be fooled by the ones that look nice....this one looks plain, but I will tell you....when your kid starts eating solids, you will thank me. If this is your 2nd or more, then I'm telling you this is the one you want....I had an Ubi pail and it was good, except....I never wanted to waste bags, so diapers sat in it for sometimes like a week and a half. The moisture from diapers vaporized and made a real mess inside door components and seals and made the whole thing a real smelly mess. This one I can just change bags as frequently as I want any maybe only waste about 2% of bag.Hope this helps. I have both the Diaper Genie Complete and This Munchkin step unit. I will be giving away the genie and keeping the munchkin stepBenefits of the step over the genie:- Has a tighter bag seal system to contain the smells- Larger container/capacity/bags = more diapers per bagging system- Cabinet door closes flush and looks more premiumCons:-NONEThe Arm&Hammer air freshener puck can easily be modded to hold activated carbon pellets which is much larger than the carbon packet that comes with the genie. Easier to mod to use generic garbage bags as well. Read more

- Holds a lot diapers- keeps in the smell- 2 different styles of diaper pail (single load use hold many diapers and same with the usual ring style)- The bagcutter is in the front but designed in a way it does not catch & rip the bags when pulling down to have slack for tying.- if you put in too many diapers the front can pop open but you can still fit that diaper you’re holding through the top (yes this matters)- liners are cheap but good quality and can be found everywhere Read more

As long as the lid is closed, there is no smell. Even with a different brand of bag refill there have been no issue and we haven't been using the puck. Our baby has started solids and still no smell complaint. It's a good height in regards to the user and in terms of diapers that can fit in it at a time. The step pedal works great. The self sealing part is made of plastic so I've never been worried about getting a hand trapped or injured in it.The hole is big enough to throw a heavy diaper in.We have been using it for 7 months and it feels durable.Easy to use and worth the money.I don't understand why some comments say it's loud.I recommend this product. God awful!Bought it because it was highly rated for odor control.... unfortunately this is not the case. After 2 days of use, we can smell the diapers from the next room. Our last diaper pail, Ubbi was way better (so unhappy with this purchase). We can't even return it because we've now used it. Read more
