I purchased the Munchkin Squirtin Bath Toy Barn Buddies for my 18 month old when I decided it was time to replace all of his bath toys. Despite my best efforts, these bath squirt toys eventually get mold inside them so just keep that in mind. The first time around I purchased him all bath squirt toys and now looking back that was a terrible idea, this time I'm only getting him this set of 4 along with other different types of bath toys that are much easier to keep clean. These are adorable and arrived exactly as pictured in the Amazon listing. I chose farm animals since my son knows the sound each one makes, so we can play and learn a bit. I would recommend these. I previously also had purchased the Munchkin Ocean Squirts Bath Toy 8 pack and aside from eventually growing mold inside them, they did otherwise hold up. I'm giving 5 stars because the items arrived and performed as I would expect from the Amazon listing, I've chosen not to deduct points for the mold issue because that is a well know issue for all bath squirt toys and is not in any way unique to this product or brand. I do not always leave reviews, but in this case it seems important since there is a legitimate safety issue with this product. As other reviewers have said, these toys grew black mold inside of them. We tried to never put them away wet, always squeezing them out after baths, but unfortunately it is IMPOSSIBLE to squeeze them out completely and they were filled with nasty mold after about 2 months.Even worse, the toys are not terribly transparent (some of them not at all) so you will not even know immediately that they are moldy. Until the mold grows to the point where you can clearly see because the toys which were more translucent have clouded you will not even be aware of it.Since the whole idea is to use them to squirt water or for our baby to handle and chew (which involves squeezing water out of them) this is almost sure to lead to your child ingesting mold spores. I strongly do not recommend this product. Read more

I gave my 1 year old grandson a set of these. He loves the crab the most. He was 12 months during the summer and each of these fit into his tiny hands. We have a Zero Depth Spash Park nearby and that was his first intro to water parks. It's not a huge place as it is made for the little ones.I grab a beach pail, threw these guys in and a few other beach type toys, and we were off to the Splash Park. SInce my grandson is 12 months, the children were asking if they could play with him (to get to the toys, lol) and my grandson isn't lingual yet and his response was he just looked at them. LOL. It was kinda funny. Just as I was about to explain how to share the toys, one boy asked him, can we ask your Mommy if we can play with your toys. LOL. I said yes and a safe, free-for-all took place. I told everyone who took a toy to keep playing near us and when they have to leave to please return them to us. My grandson kept the crap. He loves that thing and how it's eyes pop out (can't be chewed). After the little toys were passed out, there was an instant increase in the noise levels of giggles and laughing. All the children had so much fun. They also returned the toys when they were leaving (some parents returned the toys instead, lol).My grandson needs that kind of interaction with children and we can tell he was having a blast, too. by the end of the summer, He didn't know the word sharing but he had no trouble with kids running over and grabbing the toys before I told them the rules. All toys made it home by the end of the summer, too.The secret to the black mold: Take apple cider vinegar and test one of the squirts that the paint (looks like paint, but my grandson doesn't put these in his mouth) and fill it with some apple cider vinegar and shake it around. Repeat, but don't squirt it all out. If you already have mold, the children's health is more important. Through them out and for a few dollars, buy knew ones and keep on top of the cleaning. You can keep the cider vinegar in the garage if that's where all you swim gear gets dumped out when you come home and just take care of it right away. I hope this helps! If that apple cider vinegar affects the paint, cut it in half with water (1 cup water + 1 cup apple cider vinegar). That should give you enough to clean the inside. Read more

I actually use them with my puppies when I give them a bath 😂 it makes it easier for me to bathe them. They don’t get as anxious to jump back out.The colors are nice and vibrant. My puppies are 7 lbs (WERE I should say. They grew rather quickly. They are at 25 lbs now)They don’t chew on them anymore. Which is perfect because they would tear them apart rather quickly. They were not made for dogs to chew on clearly. Luckily my puppies just like to push it around and play keep away with each other. To be fair, my 9-month-old loves these, although she loves anything that she can chew on in the bath. But these are not BPA-free and it's in nice warm bath water so that the plastic gets good and warm before baby sticks it in her mouth. Ugh. My main complaint is that anything bath toy with a hole WILL grow mold, and it won't take long either. I wash these every couple weeks with HOT bleach water and I really shake the water up inside the toy and let it soak. However, the only toy that you can hold up to the light and be sure you've gotten the mold out is the orange crab. The turtle grows mold in the head and feet, and I'm not sure about under the shell because of the dark color of the shell. The other toys are not opaque and so who knows what's in them. For that reason I only let my daughter play with the crab in the bath and the other toys are now land toys only. I ordered some Hevea natural rubber bath toys instead that don't allow water. We have used it for about 4 months. They breed mould and are impossible to clean. We used to squirt the water out every day after play, and even after that, yesterday when I squirted the water out, they all spit out black mould. I am ashamed and scared that my infant used these toys to play with. We use a lot of munchkin products, and really do not expect that Munchkin would make something that is a safety hazard. Read more

While my little guy absolutely loves these toys in the bath (5 stars for entertainment), they are impossible to keep clean. The squirt holes are tiny and it's difficult to drain all the water inside the toys after a bath. The water remains and mould starts forming or dirt builds up. I've tried so many ways to clean them but can't do so thoroughly. After a number of uses, dark chunks come out of the holes when enough residue has built up and gets loose. This product would be a great one if there was a better way to clean and dry these toys. Given that these are obviously to be used for bath time I would have expected a better design from Munchkin. Read more

I’m quite disappointed in these toys mostly because it is IMPOSSIBLE to clean them inside. I did not know that they come with tiny little holes to squirt water (yeah, I know it’s written in description), but I was still hopeful. My baby absolutely loves these toys. BUT... as others have written, it builds up the mold inside the toy, which is impossible to clean and it becomes a major health hazard.Even though my baby is almost 10 months old, he still takes everything in his mouth due to teething. So he was constantly squirting these toys inside his mouth when we take baths. It only clicked to me today that it is the mold inside the toys that’s causing him to be severely sick. And by that I mean - vomiting in projectile for 1hr straight roughly 2hrs after we gave him the bath and the time he sucked on these toys. At first I was clueless why he was vomiting. But then the incident repeater itself AGAIN about a week later when he played/chewed/squirted these toys a lot in his mouth. Definitely correlation is not causation, but it’s pretty accurate and too coincidental.I love these toys due to their cuteness and my son is totally in love with the cow... I already told my husband that I would buy these toys again under 1 condition - buying superglue with it and sealing off those tiny squirting holes right away, so no water can ever get inside them, and no mold can ever form. This is why I’m on the major fence on how many starts to rate this product with. It’s a great idea that kind of failed in functionality. Read more

These were my daughters first bath squirter toys and I think like any first time mom you come to realize that the shelf life of these types of toys will be quite small. The design was so cute and my daughter loved to play with them in the bath but after a couple of months they had to be thrown out. One time use plastic is so bad for our little ones future and unfortunately these types of bath toys still exist. The mold will come. Even if you make sure to empty them after bath time. Read more
