If you want a shoulder ice pack that actually works (stays in place) without spending a lot of money, this is the wrap for you. The cross-strap is critical for keeping the ice pack in place - without it, the pack will drop down off your shoulder. Yes, it's pretty basic and not the most comfortable wrap (though I do lie in bed at night with it reading before going to sleep) but who needs to spend $80 on a shoulder wrap - unless you have a chronic condition? As mentioned, the pack holder is not that big but my largest ice pack is only slightly larger. You might want to rotate two packs to get better coverage.Daily icing is very important for rotator-cuff injuries and this is a good and inexpensive way to do that.UPDATE: You can also use this wrap to ice your elbow tendons. I have tennis elbow (outer tendons) in one arm and golfer's elbow (inner tendons) in the other arm. I can use this wrap effectively for both areas! I also found that I can use my biggest cold pack with it. Bottom line...this wrap rocks! Read more
I recently had arthroscopic shoulder surgery to repair a bone spur, a frayed labrum, and impingement. I already knew I was going to have to ice the shoulder, so I bought this ice pack preemptively. Overall this is a nice kit at a very good price, though there area few caveats to be aware of.1. If you have a hurt shoulder, it's probably going to be difficult to get on at first. You have to slide your bad shoulder through the pack (it's adjustable at both ends for different sized arms). Then, toss the strap around behind your back, grab it underneath your good arm, pull it across your chest, and secure it to the other end of the strap. The part where you reach behind your back is cumbersome, but with some practice it's not all that bad.2. Secondly, the position of the ice pack in the wrap is fixed. You don't have much room to move it around. Why is this bad? Well, the natural position for the pack in the wrap is on the medial deltoid (the large shoulder muscle on the outside of your shoulder). The pack can shift up a bit to get the top of the shoulder, but the fit generally is not as secure in this position. If your shoulder is injured in the front or the back, you will have a DIFFICULT time properly icing it with this product. The wrap simply does not allow for easy front to back adjustment of the ice pack. This is a little disappointing for me because this was exactly the kind of icing I needed for my shoulder.3. The ice pack itself is super cold. The gel is wrapped in a fairly thin plastic which gets alarmingly cold to the touch after sitting in the freezer. The thin pouch the pack sits in inside the wrap provides a little insulation, but not much. You will probably need to wear a shirt while you ice because having this on your bare skin is going to be very intense. This is better than not getting cold enough, just be advised that using it like the guy in the picture above probably won't happen for anyone with average cold tolerance. So overall this is a good pack for general shoulder icing, though I wouldn't recommend it if your injury is in the front or back of the shoulder. By far the best ice/heat pack for every body part! I have ordered 4 of these so far! These come with one cold/heat pack, a large wrap and some extension straps. My husband uses these almost daily on his knees, shoulder and elbows after he works out. The extension that come with it are strong and work great at holding it onto the shoulder while still doing stuff around the house. I have even used this to ice my heel/foot. After we are done we do not take the ice pack out of the wrap; we simply just bundle the wrap up nicely and toss the entire thing in the freezer. The first one we ever bought was almost 2 years ago and we haven’t had any issues of it coming apart. I have only used these for ice so I am unable to comment on how it works when the pack is heated. First of all, I need this as a temporary fix - I (hope) won't need this regularly like some people. That being said, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an ice pack, so I went with this Mueller. Let me say, the pack gets cold - really cold. Very impressed with how well it keeps the cold as well. After a 20 minute chill session, the pack is still cold enough I could put it on my knee or wherever and let it go for another 20 before it would get too warm to be of use. Impressive! That being said, the strap it kind of odd, it's a really tight fit for a big guy like me and all in all - it's awkward. So I pulled the pack and just use that - and it works well. So, all in all, it's a fair product with a GREAT pack inside. If you want it, get it for the pack and roll the dice to see if the strap works for you. Even the the strap didn't work great for me, the pack sure did and still does. Read more
I got this because I have shoulder tendinitis and needed something to help me recover. I am 42 years old and have been working out for over 20+years,so my joints aren't as good as they used to be.My doctor told me to use cold therapy after working out to help bring down the information to my shoulder. This brave is great to use on other body parts too.I use it in my knee as well as I have knee pain after long runs or heavy leg days. I have been changing my workout routine to accommodate my ailing joints and muscles, but I'm taking better care of myself as well. This brace is a must have even if your not a hurt, always take preventative measures. I really really recommend this Mueller brace if you're looking for a multi purpose brace. Read more
