I will never buy a regular length curling iron again! The time it took to do my hair was cut in half. The curls are even throughout the entire length. One pass! I loved the results of the 1 1/4" barrel size. 180 degrees is lower than than a lot of brands lowest temperature setting but it's about all the heat my fine hair needs. I tested the heat with a thermometer before I used it for the first time because I read too many horror story reviews on Amazon for OTHER curling irons malfunctioning and burning off chunks of hair... Mr. Big is accurate - 180 setting was 180 degrees. I got a full day like the pictures I posted, which is good for my hair. It normally falls flat after a few hours. Buy this. My first attempt at using this curling iron left my hair flat after an hour. But, after contacting the seller, Jolity promptly sent me a long list of numerous tips to try to maintain those beachy waves. Using those tips provided by the seller, I have had been wearing beautiful, beachy waves that last for nearly a week (freshening with a dry shampoo when needed) and I am thrilled with how I can go from fine, stick straight hair to tousled beachy waves in just a matter of a few minutes with my long (middle of my back) hair. Excellent product definitely worth the price considering the results (thanks Jolity for the tips that made all the difference) and ease in using, along with quick time it takes to achieve the beachy waves I was after. I bought this product because of the extended barrel and because the claim is that it can be set to 430 degrees. However, this is not the case. There is a "seam" that bisects the top and bottom of the area in which the temperature control is located, The dial that you turn to select a temperature will not go beyond this "seam," and that is where the 430 degree setting is. This thing doesn't heat past about 380. I gave it a try anyway, but sure enough, due to insufficient heat, the curls I created first were already falling out by the time I finished creating the last ones. I have used other, shorter-barreled curling irons, so I know how long I need to hold it. I did the same with this one, but no dice. It's just not hot enough.One other thing, some of the wording on the box is pretty inappropriate. It says "Mr. Big has a HUGE 9.5 inch barrel!" and also "Size really does matter." Yes, I get it, tongue-in-cheek, nearly-naughty wording, very amusing. And fine for grown women. But no doubt a lot of teenaged girls, perhaps younger, will receive this product, and wording like that is really not good for them to see. I am disappointed that a company run by a single mother, as the package insert informs me, puts that kind of writing on its packaging.Over all, this item is disappointing and definitely not worth the money. This curling iron has several features worth commenting on and, in my opinion, has earned the best review possible.Foremost, I love that one of the diameter sizes available is the 1 inch barrel width, because my texture of hair needs this size to make the curls I like. This, coupled with the extra heat that you cannot get with other curling irons, makes the BEST and long lasting curls I have ever had! The curls actually last all day. The ceramic coating also contributes to how well it curls, and knowing it is less damaging to hair, I wouldn't use a curling iron without it anymore. Another nice feature is the stand that holds it up has a protective coating on it. I realize the stand is a necessary feature, but I never thought I would ever see one that didn't burn me! Thank you!! Also, you would think an extra long curling iron would be heavy, but it actually feels very light in my hand.I am someone who has trouble throwing out things, thinking "I might still use it one day." I had two curling irons I haven't used in years and finally tossed them, if that tells you anything.Lastly, I wanted to point out that my hair is about an inch above my shoulder, yet I have long layers, so I still benefit from the impressive barrel length as well.
