The media could not be loaded. As mentioned in other reviews yes you yourself have to put these blocks together. The assembly was quite easy I didn’t even need to use the instructions. They are very sturdy and you’d need to forcefully stomp on these things to crush them. It took about 30 minutes for me to finish. Great gift for my daughters 2nd birthday Read more
1. Before you start putting these together, figure out where you're going to store them. I had a 19 X 19 X 15 inch bankers box leftover from a move. All the blocks fit with little room to spare. Storage is key to making these last.2. The instructions are a tiny leaflet at the bottom of the box. It shows the best order to fold them. Follow the directions and bend along the creases before you begin.3. The blue bricks are the easiest.4. It takes about 90 minutes to get it all done if you're a grandma like me. A movie and a glass of wine helps.5. These are SO worth it. Hours of creative fun for kids. Even my 10 year old granddaughter still plays with them. Read more
So at first I LOVED these... they seemed very sturdy. And I thought, wow, they can hold up to 150 lbs!My son is almost 40 lbs... a number of the small blocks are crushed from him standing on them. The larger blocks have a few crushed areas. Needless to say, I won't be buying any more of them. I am just glad I bought these on sale. I don't think they are worth the full price. They have been fun to play with. Just wish they were as durable as they claim. Read more
I am only listing cons in this review because although I LOVED these boxes when I was a kid, I HATED them for my 2 year old.. This is a 5 star review because they are exactly what I was looking for, BUT I still ended up returning them and here's why...CONS:***Sharp corners and edges!!***This is my main reason for returning them. First day we played with these blocks my 2yo ended up with 2 cuts VERY close to her eye from falling blocks, and a cut on the bottom for her foot after slipping off a block she was balancing on. Seemed like EVERY TIME she played with these she'd end up with a bruise or a cut. She never misused them or played recklessly with them, she'd simply stack them up & knock them down or line up & walk across the red ones. I'm surprised there aren't more reviews mentioning injuries, maybe my 2yo just needs tougher skin??Either way, I think it ought be mentioned! (Especially since they are marketed for 2-5yo who have notably delicate skin!).**Price**Although I thought the price was fair, my husband disagreed. (He's wrong though, so nevermind him!)**Durability**Although I think these are durable enough for what purpose they serve; the description embellished a bit on HOW durable.. The red block buckled under my nephew's weight, he weighs ~80lbs. (Claims in product description that red blocks can withstand 150lbs).**Assembly**I actually had a lot of fun figuring out & folding these. My husband and I even had a race to see who could fold boxes faster (I destroyed him!) That aside, my husband was griping about the task before we had made a game of it.. so I get that people loathe these boxes after they've spent an hour folding them.**Too 'easy' to knock down**These boxes are laminated so they can be wiped down, which is great!! BUT it also makes the blocks SO slick that if you lightly bump into your structure or sneeze too hard it might cause the whole thing to collapse![Pro-tip for anyone who 'got time for that']After returning these, I got to thinking.. if you added some small dots of hot glue to the sides of the blocks it would make them less slick; hence, more build-able. And if you put hot glue along the seams and corners of the boxes it might also make them a little safer. Read more
Ok the assembly sucks, but it’s not “hard/difficult”. Just prepare for paper cuts.Ultimately, I have this good reviews across the board because the assembly is so worth the final product and I don’t think you’re going to find any of these cardboard bricks that DONT suck to assemble.Again, not difficult to assemble, just rough on the hands. It’s a lot of folding and tucking of cardboard. This has already been played with by my 13 month old (1 year old..) son.. I know the age recommendations are 3+, but, whatever. He loves these, and he also loves the Melissa & Doug bricks (OH! BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM ALL BEFORE USE! Some edges needed to be sanded to avoid splinters!) Read more
These blocks are very sturdy for cardboard! My son steps on them, sits on them, and throws them. They're a little worn at the edges but no major damage. We bought these a year ago and he plays with them every day. He's made a car, many many towers, boats, doors, and houses. We've stacked them up and "drove" into them with his train. You name it! These are worth every penny. I almost feel bad for buying them on sale!! Definitely the longest lasting toy. My only complaint is I wish there was more red and blue blocks and less yellow. However my son doesn't care and they stack so nicely next to each other that I stopped caring too. Overall, definitely buy these if your little one likes building. When I noticed him constantly stacking cups and other house hold items I knew these would be a hit, but I didn't know how much they would impact his play. It's been loads of fun! Read more
I used to have this awesome cardboard blocks set when my oldest was a baby. It was given to us by a different family. They were thick and lasted long enough by the time our 3rd outgrew them (about 7years of rough play) they were still solid enough we passed them on.These are nothing like those. Super thin cardboard. If you aren't careful you could tear them while building them. They have been open for less than an hour and some are already dented in corners. And one is crushed. If I had the time I would have returned these and tried a different brand.I doubt these will last more than a year if that. Read more
