Have used the pill box for about 2 weeks now. My 75 year old dad recently was diagnosed with dementia. He has been having mild to moderate forgetfulness, but with this MedELert pill box, he has been able to train himself when to take it and how to turn it over to make the alarm stop beeping. I applied the medication schedule, instruction to "Turn UpSide Down," and an outline of a hand around the opening as reminders for him and as a visual for where the pills will come out from. It has helped a lot. The pills are kept safe in their compartment; even when you turn it over, the top is snug on so the pills don't go into other compartments. The alarm is not loud and my dad is hard of hearing so he doesn't hear the alarm well. But it does flash a red light while the alarm is going. So he uses that to know that the pills are dispensed and it's time to take his meds. So far the batteries are lasting. The kit came with easy to use instructions on how to program the pill box. My dad needs to take meds 4 times per day, but the box can accommodate upto 6 times per day. It also came with different scheduling rings so it's easy for me to organize and distribute the medication into the compartments. I feel like I use the ring more than my dad because he just relies on the time, not the day. You just have to make sure that it is aligned properly before locking. And the simple lock works really well so far. You do have to be gentle with it, as I can see if you turn it too quickly or roughly it can break. And there is a simple latch that you need to push to open as well. Luckily my dad has not tried to break into it yet, so I think it's sturdy enough. I really like the product. I have been able to rely on it to dispense meds on time and accurately, while I use a home camera system and video calling at time of distribution to visually see that my dad takes his pills, so that I don't need to be physically present anymore to give them to him. This product is a time and sanity saver!! Read more
Purchased for memory loss person who couldn't remember if daily pills were taken or time when pills needed to be taken. For us, it worked better than pill pack type dispensing. AS DESCRIBED and judge for yourself if it's for your needs. Worth every penny. PS, I'm a health care provider and this secures the medication which prevents dosing problems. A+ item Read more
Mom's in an extended care facility and I can't visit her often due to the pandemic. She needs to take a couple pills twice a day, but she has some dementia issues and was often forgetting. This device has been a life-saver. It holds twice-a-day pills for a full two weeks before I need to refill it. It beeps and flashes until she dumps the pills out... works great! Read more
My mom is 87 and is still able to live on her own. I live about 70 miles away so I couldn't help her with her meds. I recently realized she was either missing doses or taking them more than once each day. I brought her to my house so I could get her back on track with her meds and monitor her while I ordered this item. Once I set it up - which was relatively easy - I got her started using it and repeatedly showed it to her and asked her what she needed to do when the alarm sounded. Once I was certain she knew how to retrieve her meds at each dosing I let her do it without my oversight. She was fine. I took her home and called her the next morning (after her morning dose time) and she happily informed me she knew exactly what to do and had taken her meds on time and on her own. I cannot tell you how HAPPY that made me. I will go refill the machine when it is close to empty, but I am now confident this will work for her. The unit is not too small but also not too big. Its lightweight and easy to handle. I should have gotten the one that didn't show the meds through the cover so it would be easier for her to locale the open slot where her meds come out but she seems to be OK with the clear cover. (The clear cover lets us see how many doses are left easily , so it has an advantage.) Read more
Bought for my father-in-law after he took four days worth of meds too early in the week. He loves it! We feel better knowing that he can only take one dose at a time now. Great investment! Very easy to set up. Read more
The media could not be loaded. I bought this dispenser to help my husband with bipolar disorder. He was often taking his morning meds at night and vice versa. Here are a few things I didn’t see in any reviews and are good to know:• this dispenser came with both English and Spanish instructions and week calendar for the dispenser;• it has 3 different sound alarms. You can also turn off sound alarms and leave it only with your programmed alarm hours. This means that you’ll program the alarm hours and it will only flash the light to warn you it’s time to take your pills; for exemple: I programmed a alarm for 7am and 8pm. When it’s time to take your pills, the tray will spin and the light will flash, with no sound alarm. We really have no use for the sound alarm, so that’s why I’m mentioning cause I couldn’t find this info anywhere.• it’s easy to set up, watch the video and no need to ready the instructions. Will update as time goes by. I got this product for my mom in November 2021 and now in early march it has stopped keeping time for the 4th time. I loved this item because it gave both myself and my mother freedom but that didn't last long which is very sad. We are once again confined to going and giving her medication 4 times a day. Her memory is not good enough in order to do it herself with a cost of 1200.00 a month to hire someone to to this chore on top of the cost of 3200.00 to live in a senior home it is just a real let down. I forgot to send in my warranty and now I am hooped for a new one. They work good while they last so I will try again but send back the warranty this time.......not happy with myself either!! It’s a little tricky to set the time and alarms but I figured it out.My mother uses it and the reminder alarm is great. It dispenses pills into a slot and all she has to do is turn it upside down into her palm.Previously I used manual dosette. She would forget her meds occasionally and if she dropped the dosette there would be pills everywhere. If she drops this the pills stay secure in the unit. Read more
We purchased this thinking it would be a perfect way to track a dementia patient's medicine. Nope. Even after getting instructions from the company to 'reset' the software, it didn't work. Several compartments opened even though it was programmed to only open once per day. So thankful that we tested it beforehand, otherwise patient would have been seriously overmedicated. Read more
