Yes this works, but here's a few things to know first. Don't do what I'm seeing others are doing on here and leave this on your hair for 30 minutes. That's waaay too long. I have dry coily 3c hair that breaks easily, and I wanted a color streak so this is what I did. I put this on but for only about 15 MINUTES. Treat this stuff like you would a relaxer on steroids, but in this case it's a bleaching agent. Don't overdo it. I cannot stress this enough. You may be tempted to leave it on for 20 minutes or more but you can wreck your hair if you do. Rinse it out and shampoo several times, condition. And if you have brittle or dry hair CHASE the process with a hot oil treatment so your hair no longer feels like straw. Oiling is critical and makes a huge difference. After I did a hot oil treatment, I then sealed my wet hair again with almond oil (or whatever LOC oil you might use in your daily process) and viola. No issues, my curl pattern reverted fine, and it didn't fall out. I ended up with a medium blonde color going from dark brown which will be perfect for when I dye it peach.The key with this kit is moderation for real. If you have dark brown or black hair, pace your treatments. Don't keep it in for too long, this will make or break your hair literally. And oil, oil, oil after you are finished. I had dyed black hair and have been trying different bleaches every couple weeks to get it back to blonde, this is the first one that really worked. Of course it is more orange but thats with any bleach. This product is to prep not to color. I have short thick hair and still needed 3 boxes, so definitely order more just in case. Only okay for first timers because it has everything you need. If you want to go platinum blonde or any vivids from black, trust me you will be way better off buying powder blue, 20 vol developer and the mixing kit from diane separately. I have very long, very dark hair and was terrified of bleaching it. I thought it might turn out orange, or get all fried and break off. Or both. So I only used it on parts of my hair, going for a crazy streaked look.But it worked great, and ended up lighter that I was expecting it to; I ended up with shades from caramel to cream. It was fun to go partially blond! Next time I'll be braver and leave it on a bit longer.My hair felt like brittle plastic when I first rinsed the bleach out, but when I conditioned it, my hair GOBBLED up that conditioner! I did the strand test on two strands of hair of the back, bottom part of my hair. Usually, my hair is very hard to bleach and is always brassy. This turned my hair a very pretty light blonde. However, I didn’t realize how quick it would change the color. So, my hair was already over processed. While applying it, I could instantly see it changing colors in the mirror. This product does have to be applied quickly. It did burn my hair because I have been on a “bleach and dye spree.” I would recommend it and will order again when I decide to rebleach it. Product came in good condition. I swear by this brand of hair bleaching kit, I have stubborn thick dark brown hair and this kit is strong enough to get it to a light yellow blonde in one session. I give my hair a week or so and lots of treatments to recover and then I bleach it again to get the brassiness out and get my hair to a platinum blonde that I can then dye blue or green or purple or whatever I want. I've never attempted a natural-looking hair color so I can't speak on how this works for that. I've tried some bleaching kits from LOreal and one or two other major brands available at CVS and stores like that, but none have been as effective at stripping my hair of its natural dark color than this brand.I've included a picture that shows my hair's natural color and a picture of how it looks right now.Context for the picture of my hair right now: My roots had grown out a lot (my "roots" were longer than the bleached and dyed parts of my hair haha) so I bleached and dyed them about a week ago and am going to bleach them again in a couple of days. My roots in the picture are what my hair looks like dyed after one bleach session with this product. The tips are what my hair looks like dyed after being bleached with this product more than once. (Please pardon the fading, I ran out of my color-safe shampoo so I've been having to use my other stuff which really wrecks the color until I can buy more.)You'll notice how much lighter my hair is after even one bleach session with this product than it naturally is, and my hair is still soft and relatively healthy.(The dye I use is by Special Effects.)Bleaching tip: Cover your hair in coconut oil and leave it overnight before bleaching. In my experience, it makes the bleaching more effective AND leaves your hair healthier and softer after the bleaching than it is when I bleach without soaking my hair in coconut oil first. This is the first time I have ever attempted to bleach my Asian hair. I just opted to do the tips (3 inches from the bottom) of my shoulder length hair, so given this there was more than enough of the product for me and I actually ended up having to throw a lot of it away as I mixed way too much. I probably could have covered my entire head with the contents. I kept the product on for an hour and you can see the result in the picture. It's a gingery tone more than it is blonde. I have no idea if leaving it on longer i.e. 90 mins would have made it more blonde. I was reluctant to try it in case it all went wrong! Anyway, the plan is to now dye with Atomic turquoise, so we'll see how that goes.As I was doing this myself at home, I opted to use foil, not just to wrap the bleached sections in at the end, but also before I started; I found thin strips were useful to act as markers (i.e. how far to take the dye up). I tried a bit of balayge/ombre but it didn't really work. There's quite a solid line between the dyed and non dyed section (I am assuming this is because I used 40 vol, but honestly I am a total novice to this so it could just be my bad technique!) I did note that after washing and drying my hair, the texture was quite coarse...was hard to get a brush through, but I am hoping with a bit of deep conditioning my hair should be ok.The only downside of this was the smell was quite potent and made my eyes water a little. I used this to lighten my hair prior to using a bright colour.My natural colour is dark brown which had been dyed red a while ago so the tips were still red.I left the bleach on for about 45 - 50 minutes which really lightened it but with a yellow tinge as expected. This was my first time bleaching my hair and it was so easy with such good results that I'll probably do it again.One pack was plenty for my short hair but I can see how you'd need several packs if you have more hair than I do.It's really useful that it includes the plastic bowl to mix it in and the brush to apply it, and also it includes the plastic cap to cover your hair while it develops. Had hoped that with the strength of this it may have also removed some of he last dye still in my hair.Ended up with mostly great bleached hair, but slightly peachy due to the red dye in my hair not puling out.Probably could have left it in slightly longer (35mins) but never like to overdo or cause any long term damage to my hair.Would buy again. Of all the products I've used to bleach my hair over the past few years, this definitely seems better than any of the others. I have short dark brown hair and this lightened it in one round to a platinum blonde colour (I left it on for just over 60 minutes). The only downside is that is costs about half as much again as other brands, but does less damage to your scalp than what 2 rounds of the others would do. Other brands have often turned my dark hair ginger, but this did the job perfectly. Read more
