Love how well this product works once you’re good at pulling your hair through a cap. What sets it apart from others is the blue liquid toner rinse at the end that eliminates brassy undertones that tend to arise when I lighten my hair. I have used this product for a year and found it to be consistent. And the cost is a fraction of the price is a salon. I have short hair, so I only use half of the product and get two uses out of each box. Score! The process I’ve developed for my dark blonde/almost brown natural hair is to put the frosting bleach on, cover it with the provided plastic, blow a hairdryer on medium on it for the first 5 minutes, then let it sit 15 more minutes (20 total — that’s LESS that the instructions recommend so check it often), then shampoo. I find I don’t need much toner so I mix what I don’t use with my regular shampoo and just use daily for continued blonde shine. It works great! Read more
I used the champagne color I love it.! I left if on for 50mins. After I used the purple hair mask from amazon. It pulled out all the orange color and looks amazing. Read more
I have been using this type of frosting kit for literally over half of my life, and it never lets me down. All the components are the highest quality you can find in a home kit -- the cap is nice and thick and doesn't tear easily, it comes with two hooks, one of which is metal, it comes with an overcap to keep the solution from drying out as you lighten your hair so you get the best results, and the solution turns out thick and creamy so there's no need to worry about it running. I always make sure I follow the directions to get the best results, and I use the metal hook for most strands so the finished product looks more natural. Just make sure to space them evenly and do plenty of small strands, or it will look patchy. I do take the plastic hook and pull through a few extra strands around my face, and since the plastic one pulls out more hair I end up with some bolder highlights in those areas which I find very flattering.A tip I learned in cosmetology school back before they started doing foil highlights and used these caps in salons: if you find the process painful, make sure you are pushing the hook through at an angle, and not straight on. You don't have to push it into your scalp at all. If you still have pain from pulling through the hairs, take a pain reliever before you start and it will help. After years of use I have realized that I don't need to use the toner, as my color always looks great without it and I find that step to be unnecessary for my hair. Since I have prematurely VERY gray hair, I also buy boxed dye that I apply only to my roots as I get growth, maybe every three weeks for about three months. Then I redo my highlights. Touching up just the roots is easy to do if you buy a brush made for applying hair dye, and it keeps me from having to refrost my hair too often. Hope this helps someone! Read more
At first I was scared of doing this myself but I did it anyway. Since my hair is like steel wool sometimes it was hard to pull it out of the cap. The plastic thing gave out on me. Yup..broken in half. Luckily I had the back up. I didn't really follow all the rules for example I used my own shampoo along with the one that was inside the box and I mixed my conditioner with the toner lol. I love the results that i got from it. This is my absolute favorite hair kit of all time! The price is decent here because drug stores in NY sell it for around $15 for one box. This is the only “drugstore” brand that lightens my dark brown hair to almost platinum in one application!! I’ve tried the Clairol highlight kit, but it doesn’t lighten like this one. This L’Oreal kit is the only kit that includes a toner (which is essential to turn my brassy blond to a beautiful nearly platinum color). I left it in my hair for the maximum time. I bought this based on the reviews from here (I read both the positive & negative just in case). I get salon quality lightened hair at a fraction of the price & in the comfort of my home. Read more
L'Oréal Paris Frost and Design Cap Hair Highlights For Long Hair, H85 Champagne - Love it! Have never done the at-home color in all my years. Before actually doing this, I watched an on-line video posted on UTube by an at home user, not one posted by the manufacturer. I told myself, stop putting it off, you can do it. Opened the box this morning, read through all of the directions, had everything in front of me, & read again. I have below the shoulder length fine hair & only needed one box of the product (some manufacturers recommend two for longer hair). Most of the time commitment to the process is pulling hair strands through the plastic cap. To make my process go a bit quicker (based on other informational reviews), I took a pair of manicure scissors & poked small holes in the circles marked on the cap. As I was doing this solo, the small punctures made it easier to feel the holes when it was time to start pulling hair through the cap in places i couldn't see.Just in case, I put a towel down on the floor when it came time to apply the color, but noticed no splatter/splashing at all. Continued following the directions and all done. Love the color. Will definitely buy again. Read more
