Great Product. Just follow the directions exactly and you will have a ruler that will chart the growth of your child (in my case my grandchild). I bought a board, stained it, let it dry for a week and read the directions several times and began to apply the decal as directed. The most important part is to read the direction and make your marks with the pencil ahead of time. The first mark on your 4 inch mark starts with the longest tick mark and you work from there. When you get to the end you will cut the decal and use the remaining tick marks to fill in the gaps at the bottom. I will post a picture after they send me my free name decal (which is my favorite part of ordering from this company). Great looking decal, adheres well and was a easy project that anyone can do. Now this is a quick and easy craft that makes a great gift. Just get a 1x8 board (Select Grade Pine with little or no knots is about $24 at Lowes and better than what I find at Home Depot). Cut to 6 feet if you had to get an 8ft board (Lowes will make this cut if you need it.) Sand the edges a little to reduce the sharpness a bit and lightly sand with steel wool. Wipe off real good and you are ready to apply this decal using great instructions provided. We have done this 3 times and still impressed by how awesome they turn out. We put on a coat of varnish, lightly sand with steel wool, and add a final coat. Looks great. Don't forget to mark the birth height and include parents height too! Read more
When I was growing up, my dad measured us on a bookshelf that got too short for all of us sometime around Middle school, so I wanted to have a chart that would be tall enough. But, I also wanted one I could take with us if we decided to move. All the other pre-made charts I saw attached to a wall as a decal, so when I saw this and the price I thought it looked perfect. This product was super easy to use. The instructions that came with it were wonderful, and clear. I only varied slightly in how I measured for where the marks went. On occasion when separating the paper from the decals to attach them to the board I had a dash stick, but if you are paying close attention you can press them back together and it will stick to the transfer paper instead. Most pre-made growth charts I looked at like this, either on Amazon or other craft sites they wanted $50+ for the product. I had some left over paint from painting our dining room, the board coast $5, we had sandpaper from a previous project, so all together this project cost us LESS than $20! So to sum up, very easy to use, apply, great price, good clear quality. I. LOVE. IT. Read more
I am very pleased with this product! It is exactly as described. The directions were clear and easy to follow. It did not take me long to apply and application was simple. I appreciated that the measuring lines came in one foot sections which made them much more manageable to apply. The only downside was that the decal did not fully come off the transfer paper at times (see picture), but this was not a big deal at all - my fingernails pulled the extra paper off with no problem. I chose to use a raw cedar board and am thrilled with how it turned out - it looks so similar to an actual ruler or yardstick. I cannot wait to hang this up and start recording my children's measurements on it! Read more
I got my board from Home Depot. It is a 6’ tall, 12” wide board (they have them already cut in that size for $15) I painted a board for my daughters first birthday. I wanted mine to measure from the floor up, so I don’t have to always hang it, when we move, etc. So I measured from the bottom of the board, up. I didn’t put the numbers on it, because I like the look without them. You can tell where the foot markers are, because they’re longer tick marks. I didn’t technically make a “ruler”, so didn’t need the numbers, just the tick marks. The instructions are super clear, and easy to follow. Just peel the clear part away from the white paper and place the clear paper, sticky side down, on the board. Then, use something to rub against the tick marks to make them stick to the board. peel the clear paper away, and the tick marks will be stuck to your board. Easy peasy! I plan on sealing the board and using a paint pen to mark height over the years! Thanks so much! Read more
DIY Vinyl Growth Chart Ruler Decal Kit So I priced this growth chart in stores and thought the price was pretty high so I looked online for a kit that would enable me to do it myself at home for a fraction of the price and I found this decal kit. Let me say that this was one of the easiest projects I've ever done. The directions are pretty foolproof....believe me....I suck at following directions but these directions were laid out simply and succinctly. The finished product looks exactly like the one in the online photo which makes me very happy. I am giving this to a dear friends baby grand daughter and am proud to actually sign and date the back of the chart so they can think of me fondly every time they use this to measure their precious children. I really wish I'd had this kind of chart when I was a young mother because when you move from one home to another you leave precious memories and milestones. With this product you can take all of that with you and not spend a ridiculous amount of money to do it. Thank you so much for coming up with this concept. Read more
This is the 4th set of rulers I have purchased. I put this on a nice maple board with a little character so it looked like a ruler. The layout was easy and I modified it by putting marks every 6" to make sure I was on the mark. I used a plastic putty knife to rub the graphics onto the board and the ruler for my grandson turned out perfectly. My daughter is putting his name and birth weight and height on the board and I am going to cover the entire surface with poly to seal it all in (sponge brushes work really well for this project) Read more
