A few days ago our gas fireplace turned on by itself at 2 am. We woke up to burning smell and came down to investigate. A silk pillow, perhaps thrown against the glass of the fireplace by our kids was charring and smelling. Fortunately it did not catch fire. The fireplace switch was in the ON position. so the only likely explanation is that the switch wasn't completely turned off during previous use, possibly left in half way position and flipped back ON by itself. Now we installed this little lock on the fireplace switch so this incident does not repeat itself. Additionally it will prevent kids from turning ON the fireplace unsupervised. Highly recommended. I bought it with the intention of using it to deter my 3 year old son from turning his bedroom light on after bed time. He figured it out after one day. It is easy to install and is minimalistic and looks good, but if you're looking for something childproof I'd look elsewhere! My toddlers figured out how to use this within seconds. I was hoping to keep my son from turning the bedroom light on in the middle of the night, waking his twin up. (I ended up placing a reading lamp directly shining on only his bed, since he hates the dark, and that solved the problem instead.)Don’t bother with this if your goal is childproofing. My 3 year old has severe autism, is deaf, and has additional cognitive disabilities, so the name of the game is prevention and proofing. He shares a room with his siblings right now, but loves turning on the light through out the night and morning when he wakes up, it became a big problem, and the excitement for him made it more difficult to get him back to sleep. The light switch guard does not fit flush to the light switch cover plate I used it on. The two screwholes on the light switch guard protrude too much and are too large diameter which prevents it from fitting into the existing screw hole recesses in the cover plate.To finally get it to fit closer to flush I needed to grind the 2 protrusions of the light switch guard (see arrows in picture) down using a Dremel tool. Or an easier way is to take your existing light switch cover plate and drill out the 2 screw holes using a drill bit so that the protrusions fit into them. Read more
This is a MUST HAVE when you install Smart LED bulbs! As most of us are creatures of habit, adjusting to the Smart Home lifestyle is...difficult...sometimes. In our household, our biggest problem since our switch to all Alexa controlled lighting, is accidently turning off the Wall switch-controlled lights at the switch!With these lightswitch guards, we no longer have the issues caused by turning off our lights at the switch, and it also still allows us to turn the lights off if the Internet/Wifi fail!The only switch I had an isssue installing this on was original to our home being wired, in the 1930's. Everyone has a "problem" switch that keeps getting turned on by accident when you prefer it stay off - or remain on for that matter. I've had several situations over the years that I've kept a switch covered - usually with masking or painters tape - as a reminder. In my case in the home we recently moved into, one of the 4our switches in the same switch plate in the living room turned on the flame in the gas fireplace. This little guy is the perfect solution as you have to flip open the little guard latch to reposition the switch. No accidental on-off anymore. Ridiculously easy to install and even comes with screws of different length to accommodate all installations. Only downside is it comes only in bright white rather than the Ivory or off-white color. After installing smart lights throughout the house, I needed to lock out the existing light switches to prevent people from habitually turning them off and disabling the smart functions. I didn't want to install expensive smart switches everywhere, so these work just fine. These are a little expensive for what they are, but I would probably buy it again. Read more
this switch guard mounts over your existing switch cover. it has dimples on the back to line up and fit over your existing screw holes but the dimples are too large to fit flush with the switch cover. tried a few different brands of switch covers but to no avail you have to drill out your switch cover screw holes large enough for the dimples to sit flush. do not cut the dimples off the back of this switch guard or your screws will fall right through.
