I admittedly have spent way too much on Learning Resources products because, typically, the quality of their products (to me) justifies the cost. While I love the concept of the counting cans, and my 2-yr-old really enjoys playing with them, they are just not the quality I have come to expect with the brand. They are a much thinner, flimsier plastic than the other play food, so they easily leave a dent when you press into them. The cardboard cans do seem fairly sturdy. Regardless... charging ~$40+ for this set?! Not worth it. The markup here seems ridiculous. If you can get them for $20 or less, I'd still buy them. Otherwise, I'd pass. Or better yet, find a way to DIY. More fun for kiddos that way anyhow. Pictures: left side is Counting Cans vs right side is other LR play food. Read more
Got these as a gift for my niece in her play kitchen. They were the only toy cans I could find that had play food inside, much more exciting than empty cans. She is only a toddler, and I know they can double as a counting game as she get a bit older. All the cans had the correct amount of items. As others have commented the kidney beans are larger than life size, but I think that makes them less of a choking hazard for small children. A little pricey, but the food items are fairly realistic and for the actual number of items, fairly comparable to other food play sets. Picture shows each of the items compared to the size of a US quarter coin for reference. Read more
My toddler LOVES playing with these. She enjoys opening and closing the cans which are surprisingly sturdy for what I guess is a cardboard. The lids are plastic and so is the food inside, but it's not a flimsy plastic. I was hesitant to get any plastic food toys because my 18 month old can destroy any and everything but these have managed to hold up rather nicely despite her trying to bite the crap out of them when she pretend eats them lol. The colors are bright, vibrant, and fun. The food is a good size and perfect for toddler hands. As my daughter gets older these will definitely help her to count, and do so in a fun way. Very happy with the purchase and would absolutely recommend. Read more
My 16 month old got a play kitchen for Christmas. We put these with it. They are perfect! She loves opening the cans and "cooking" the food in her pots and pans. Then, when we clean up together, we have a lot of fun separating and counting the food back into the correct container. I feel like my daughter's recent excitement about counting is directly related to this set. The only thing I was disappointed with is that the actual cans are cardboard not plastic. The lids are plastic. When I originally ordered this, I thought both the cans and lids were plastic. The cardboard is sturdy but still cardboard. We've only had the set for a month so we'll see how well they hold up over time. Read more
The Grandbaby loves these and so do I. Cute, sturdy and perfect for endless sorting, filling, shaking and emptying fun. The kidney beans are adorable. (I can't say that I've ever used 'kidney beans' and 'adorable' in a sentence before. ?) And now she's counting, so these are all the more fun for that. I bought them around six months ago and they've held up nicely.UPDATE NOV 16 2021:Here we are again, another grandchild at just the right age. I really like Learning Resources' quality in toys, so for Christmas I immediately looked up a few old favorites. I was a bit shocked at the increase in price for them but what can you do? Interestingly, CBS Sixty MInutes just had a segment on the current shipping problems and how they're affecting prices. Talk about shipping gougers! The president of Learning Resources in Chicago was one of the many people interviewed across all various industries, and it was very illuminating. Retailers are being gouged so terribly they're forced to raise their prices. It's not about inflation or the government. It's about outdated ports, supply and demand and pure greed, because the major shipping players have the upper hand and are making record profits right now. Maersk alone is up more than $61 Billion in profits so far for 2021. Read more
Bought this a while ago as a present. It stayed in the box past the return window because, well, it was a present I bought well in advance. When opened, the 9 can, which is supposed to have 9 beans, had eight. Can't do anything because it's too late. This sort of thing happens, I would just advise you to check right away that each can has the right amount. That's the only reason I'm not giving five stars, and I do recognize, this stuff happens. That aside, this is a really terrific product. The cans are fun themselves just to stack. Then there's the fun of opening them, sorting, counting, etc. What I like the most is, for a very reasonable price, we got a bunch of play food, and not the same ol' stuff. My son loves using the food to "cook," and this stuff works great b/c of the size (not too big, not to small). Read more
This is such a cute toy set! My two year old got a kitchen from Santa and this was perfect to fill her cupboards. It also helps with learning different vegetables and counting to put them in the right containers. The cans are made of sturdy label wrapped cardboard and since she's out of the teething stage she isn't chewing on them. I'd wait until after your child passes the "putting everything in their mouth stage" for this toy since some of the pieces are small as well and the cans would definitely break down if chewed on. Otherwise, they are great and the lids snap on and off easily. My daughter likes being able to open and close them herself. Read more
Perfect for learning and playtime! Was going to buy toy food anyways so I went w this. Only complaint I have is for cost I think the cans should stack on eachother and the lids should be more secure. They stay put but don't close all the way on some cans. My child is crazy about stacking things so I just think it could have easily been another pro for the toy. Read more

The media could not be loaded. Read more
