I purchased these to help my 1st grade twins understand numeration. In my opinion (as a high school math teacher), this type of manipulative is indispensable for that task. Students *must* be able to see two-digit numbers as a collection of tens and ones to have a proper foundation for the rest of elementary arithmetic. Blocks like these lend themselves to a variety of tasks that support that fundamental understanding, as well as further explorations throughout early grade school. However, the manufacturing of the set I received is unbelievably shoddy. Perhaps I just got a lemon of a set, because my issues seem so much more dramatic than others have mentioned. Blocks often require a great deal of force to push together, and some of them are so warped/misshapen that they are simply impossible to click together. Even the little ones blocks have such wide manufacturing tolerances that they're often so off-center that you can't click multiple ones in a row on top of a ten block. Trying to use these for instruction was pointless - my kids were so frustrated just getting the blocks together that they lost focus on the mathematical ideas we were trying to model.I wasn't expecting an instructional aid to have the durability or precision of Legos, but these are so poorly manufactured that they become an obstacle to instruction rather than an aid. Find some other base ten blocks to help teach your students. These are junk. Read more

I love these resources that help students understand why the mathematics works and not just how. I love the durability but kind of wish the thousands block was able to be pulled apart and used as more hundreds. It would just give more flexibility for different concepts. These are pretty awesome, however! Read more

I love these Base 10 Blocks. I am a teacher candidate and we used these for our math interventions. The kids love them! The only drawback to these (which can be considered a plus in some cases) is, they are like Legos. They stack and lock together. The kids love them because they are like Legos. They are also distracting to some students because they are so much like Legos. They are also heavier than the foam Base 10 set because they are made of plastic vs foam. I am overall very happy with this purchase. I would have purchase them again. I believe this set will outlast the foam sets my peers bought. That being said, when I get my own classroom, I will probably buy a foam set too, just for the students that are easily distracted. These would be my primary ones that I would teach with on a day to day basis, as I really like they way they are made. Read more

These are perfect for my students to use for so many math concepts. I LOVE that the ones snap together to make a ten then the tens snap together to make a hundred. They are great for developing fine motor skills too!! Our OT said they are the perfect size, so she ordered some. Read more

I am homeschooling my 6-year-old, and these blocks are PERFECT for our math lessons. We initially had paper blocks in 1, 10, and 100 sizes, but my daughter wasn't understanding. The plastic blocks made everything come together, and we're breezing through our lessons now. We're working on concepts including place value, 3- and 4-digit numbers, and greater than/less than. The blocks make everything so easy! We have used them in every single lesson so far this year.Another point to note is that my daughter plays with these blocks during her free time. She loves to stack and count them. She makes stairs out of them and plays just like she would with Legos.I really debated about buying these blocks, but I'm glad I did. They're sturdy enough to keep them for my younger daughter, as well. Read more

I previously used a set like this when I was teaching teachers how to teach math hands-on. The ones I used then were wooden. These are perfect! I am a traveling volunteer tutor and and these are lightweight. The wooden place value blocks were heavy. Also, the blocks snap together; the ones snap together to make a ten stick and the ten sticks snap together to make a hundred block. So glad to have them! It also comes with worksheets to use with the blocks. Nice Read more

I've bought/made a fair few learning resources for my kids but this set is the one I use most regularly. It is excellent for teaching the concept of units, tens, hundreds and thousands and for a visual representation of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in the early years. The kids also sometimes just use it as a type of Lego which is useful for reinforcing the idea that it is a "fun" toy and therefore, math is fun. You could probably make your own homemade depictions of units, tens, etc that would do the job of teaching math but the fact that these click together makes them just that bit more sensible, useful and fun. The concept is great and the blocks do help with number comprehension. However, they are supposed to be stacking blocks, but many of the single unit blocks do not fit correctly on the base ten and base hundred blocks. This really limits the scope of what can be done with this set. I'd hesitate to recommend it to anyone. I am sure there are better products out there. Read more

I bought these as the original blocks helped me and the kids enormously to understand place value when I was training to be a teacher in the 1960's - then the blocks were made of wood - now of course they are plastic but just as suitable. I hope they will help my 12 year old grand-daughter understand decimals. The flats fit together to make a block. There is a clear manual with them which contains lesson plans. Read more

Expensive but great for helping one of my sons with his maths. He likes them as they are similar to the ones they use at school. Read more
