I was hoping to use these to replace cotton swabs for my ears. I know, I know, you're not supposed to use them for ears, but that's what I buy cotton swabs for. And unfortunately, these are so smooth that they don't have the same texture as a cotton material. I tried putting toilet paper over the swab, which kind of works, but that defeats the whole purpose of avoiding disposable items. It's just sitting there in my medicine cabinet now, and hopefully one day I'll find a use for them. Read more

Unusable as a makeup Q-tip. Both tips are like rubber and do not absorb or wipe off anything so it is useless for doing makeup (for example does not absorb micellar water to remove makeup). Read more

These are too nonstick to pick up makeup or ear wax. I tried all ends of these and got nothing. Then with regular q-tips I had a lot come off. Not with it, would return if I wasn’t lazy. Read more

Wattestäbchen sind in vielen Bereichen sehr nützlich, aber sie gehören zu den Plastikartikeln, die am häufigsten an den Strand gespült werden, so dass über die Jahre ein ganzer Berg an Plastikmüll erzeugt wird. Zur Zeit kaufen wir zwar plastikfreie Stäbchen, doch wiederverwendbare finde ich auf jeden Fall noch besser.Leider konnten mich diese Stäbchen nicht überzeugen. Für die Ohrenreinigung ist die genoppte Oberfläche noch einigermaßen zu gebrauchen, obwohl ich mit Wattestäbchen eine bessere Reinigungsleistung erzielen konnte. Für alle Einsätze, bei denen sie Flüssigkeiten oder ähnliches aufnehmen sollen, konnten die Stäbchen bei mir leider nicht punkten. Mascara, Lippenstift oder Augenbrauenfarbe wird leider nur verschmiert, da das Material nichts aufnimmt. Auch wenn man die Stäbchen anfeuchtet wird die Farbe nur verteilt, aber nicht aufgenommen.Die Stäbchen kommen in einer plastikfreien Verpackung, sind aber aus den Kunststoffen PP und TPE gemacht. PP gilt zwar als unbedenklich und enthält keine Weichmacher, doch es ist sehr lange haltbar und zersetzt sich nicht. Solange die Gegenstände in Gebrauch sind, ist diese Eigenschaft ein Vorteil. Doch leider bleibt PP als Plastikmüll über viele Jahrzehnte erhalten und zerreibt sich nach und nach in feinste Teilchen, dem Mikroplastik. Daher sind Materialien aus nachwachsenden und abbaubaren Rohstoffen wie Papier, Holz oder Bambus doch umweltfreundlicher und daher werde ich lieber bei diesen bleiben. So the packaging on this tells me: “There is no planet B” - so true. I think zero-waste culture is a great thing and products like this give us the opportunity to be a little less wasteful making it better for the environment and perhaps saving us money in the long run too.I’ve started using a fair few silicone cleaning brushes (for the face, body and for bottles) and have generally been really impressed so I was more than happy to give these a try. You get two cotton swab alternatives here and they are very similar in size and appearance to regular cotton swabs. The tips are silicone but they’re really firm and rigid, not soft and flexible as I was expecting. The sticks look like coloured wooden sticks but I think they’re actually eco-friendly nylon, which combined with the silicone make these swabs easy to wash and re-use many times over.I’ve never thought it a good idea do be poking around in my ears with swabs so I’ve been testing the little swabs for other things instead. Haven’t found a good use for the textured swab yet but the smooth one is really good for precision makeup application, especially brightener, concealer and eyeshadow.I noticed LastSwab sell custom cases for the swabs, which would be a great place to store them hygienically between uses. It’s just a shame you have to buy the cases separately and each case only stores one swap so presumably you’d have to buy two cases if you’re going to use both...? A small repurposed tin or container may have to suffice for me. Overall I think this is a decent product, eco-friendly and economic, so long as you can find uses for it. Read more

LastSwab Reusable Q Tips Double Pack.I have been using these Q tips for a while now. This particular set is the refill set, so no storage container supplied. The swabs do last for quite some time, therefore no single used cotton buds need to be purchased. Once used simply rinse under the tap and use again. You do need to check the end is secure each time before use. Mine did work loose eventually after many uses. The only real problem is the purchase price £17.58 (red colour) at time of writing.
