This is my seventh Pizzarelli CD and my newest favorite. I play it constantly in the car, and love the mix of upbeat, catchy tunes alternating with the soulful and romantic. If you like your vocal jazz mellow, with a few lesser known surprises, this one's for you. Read more

Ok, I do enjoy Mr. Pizzarelli's music, his guitar playing is excellent and when he joins voice and guitar riffs, very nice. Coffe, black, New Sun, Pick yourself up very very nice - now, the other part of the bag though, the slow stuff, very thin and drags no emotion from me at all. And please Mr P, drop the wife from your discs, "Quality Time?" a better name for this tune should be "Painful Time" as her weak and whinny voice might be better suited to calling small dogs.....sorry Jessica, just my opinion..... LOVE John Pizzarelli! Most amazing scat ever and he does it while he's riffing the guitar at top speed. Sounds to me like it should take at least two people to do that, but no. Incredible. His singing is sweet and fun. "Quality Time" is a riot. Great jazz. Read more

"Sometimes meeting a musician transforms my way of thinking forever. Meeting a songwriter teaches me more about the nature of life from having lived inside his music." ~ John Pizzarelli ~I will say it over and over again that John Pizzarelli is one of the most versatile and remarkable jazz artists of today! He's not only an impressive jazz singer but also a gifted guitarist, talented songwriter/composer all rolled into one. He has been recording jazz standards that we all know and love mostly in trio or big band settings. This CD, "Knowing You" is a program of timeless standards mix with some of his original songs, plus a song by the Beach Boys, "God Only Knows." This is a tribute to the songwriters, composers and musicians he met and have known in the course of his musical career. The brilliance and creativity in singing and guitar playing that Mr. Pizzarelli brings not only in this CD but in all of his recordings have continuously delighted my auditory sense. He sings two of Jimmy McHugh's gems with new twists - "I Just Found Out About Love" and one of my all-time favorites, "Say It Over And Over Again," written with Frank Loesser. In the same manner, he gives Johnny Mandel's "The Shadow of Your Smile" a graceful reading and making it as one of the best tracks from this collection. While all the tracks are great listens, the notables include the title track "Knowing You," Dave Frishberg and Dan Barrett's "Eastwood Lane," featuring Ken Peplowski on beautiful clarinet, George and Ira Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On?" and Sammy Cahn's "If It's The Last Thing I Do." A delightful duet with Jessica Molaskey, "Quality Time," another Dave Frishberg song, is also an enjoyable listen for their voices blended and harmonized so well creating a warm musical romance between this real-life-couple.This is one of John Pizzarelli's most remarkable recordings and I most definitely recommend it!"Say it over and over againEver and ever so sweetJust like an old Valentine" Read more

Have not listened to him before. Pleasant enough i suppose. If you like early George benson (Before he went commercial) and Mel Torme, this may sound a little flat. SACD can only improve the quality of the recording. Will listen again and it may grow on me. It happens.I did enjoy the accompanying artist though. Read more
