I had to replace my outdated hot tools straightener that I bought 6 years ago(nothing was wrong with the old one, just lost it while traveling). This straightener heats up quickly and leaves my hair so silky smooth without turning the heat up all the way. I would say I have normal type hair. This is by far, the very best flat iron that I've ever owned! The features that are important for my hair needs are: good plate tension, glides through hair without pulling or snagging. Also, this flat iron is...well, flat! It's not bulky. The plates are thin, and a bit longer than other flat irons, which cuts styling time, and heat passes through the blades more efficiently. Another important feature is the size. The plates are 1 in, but comparing it to my collection of other flat irons, this one is between 1 in, and 1.25. This is perfect for me, since I mainly use a flat iron for curling, and I'm able to flip and curl my hair in one pass! I own a hot tools blow dryer, which is still going strong after 5 years. I like this flat iron, hair smoother very much. It feels like and works like a more expensive brand and even with a clumsy person like me, It is easy to maneuver. The temperature can be adjusted easily and with the heat protection glove I don’t burn my guiding hand. My thick, coarse , curly hair gets nicely straight on one turn and my hair stays straight until I wash it. I’m so glad Amazon had such a great selection of flat irons at reasonable prices.
