Likes: easy install, matched gate well,Dislikes-No hanger or assembly to hold rod up BUT if you used the versa gate kit, the rod can be turned and rest on middle support just fine.Caution: The rod was purchased for one side of 7x14 privacy gate. The gate interior faces south and gets hammered in a southwest wind (most common in my area). I have chain link on other three sides so no windbreak there. The rod held on but bent a good bit on first test. Now hard to slide up and down. Considering how much energy is leveraged on that rod with a 14 foot sail of privacy fence, not surprised. Going to have cut some thick U stock metal and a piece of square tube to make a support for significant wind events. Read more

My gate has a of gap underneath, so the rod extended about 8" when closed. The first windstorm bent it almost 45 deg. Had to remount it lower, leaving just 1" above the ground. For support, I backed the bracket that extended below the gate with a substantial steel L-profile, and connected them together with several bolts. Look for a more substantial product if your gate is large or has any significant gap above the ground. Read more

I bought this rod based on a review that indicated it was 1/2in, it's not it's instead with coating a 9/16in rod, which means now I have to get a grinder and remove the old rod mounting that's welded or drill it to make this thing fit.My own stupidity for not confirming the actual dimensions before buying it.It is however a substantial upgrade over what's out there currently, and broken. So I'll probably be raising this rating after I get busy with my drill and grinder to make this thing fit.Update, after some grinding and getting better mounting hardware this solution is now attached to my gate and laughed off a nasty storm. It was well worth the work to get it installed. Read more

The box leads you to believe that you need two drop rods for a double gate but you don't, only one is needed and when you try to return the extras, they want to charge 20% restocking fee and you will have to pay shipping charges. To clarify The box that the gate frame comes in shows two and the box that the drop rods come in shows only one per double gate. Read more

We replaced a previous wood gate, and replaced it with a metal framed wood gate, so the holes in the cement to lock the rods in place were already there. That was good, but it also made it harder to line the rods up with the holes. All in all, it is a good secure gate that cannot be opened even when the latch above is opened, which is what we wanted. There is no way to open the gate from the front when using these rods. Read more

Product does a good job for what it is. It was just difficult for me to get the self tapping screws started so I drilled pilot holes and they sunk in fine. The pin catch at the top is very rudimentary. It’s just a thin strip of metal shaped like a V that is perpendicular to the ground. While I haven’t experienced this yet it seems like the pin could easily slip off the top catch and drop down. Otherwise it does a fine job and doesn’t take much to install. Read more

They work great and I have had them for a few years now. The rod bends a little in high winds. Overall I would definitely buy them again. Read more
