I'm a sucker for Amazon so when I found an organic henna powder that I could order with prime, I figured I'd try it. It's been a while since I have used henna on my hair, but I had been getting that itch again. I love how vibrant it is. This henna really delivers! I made a paste with room temperature water, added a splash of apple cider vinegar, covered it and then let it set for 3 hours. I then applied and left it on for 2-1/2 hrs. I bought this item along with indigo from the same company. I'm very pleased with both items and the way my hair turned out. I had grayed early in life and by the time I got to the age I am now, my hair is 90% white. I used commercial dyes for years but got concerned about the chemicals. I ended up letting all my dye grow out and been with white hair for two years now. I was miserable because I couldn't get it to look nice at all like some of the people I've seen. Anyway, I heard about henna some years ago but I also heard about companies sneaking in chemicals and not making it a fine powder consistency and so on and so forth. So when I came across this brand I went out on a limb and bought it. I watched alot of YouTube videos and it turned out fabulous. I'm so please with the results, I'm going to order more. The person I purchased this was very excited to try it. But when we received the product it was already expired. The henna we received was past it's experation date by three months.I would normally let something like this slide and give the benefit of the doubt.But when you're buying something that is natural, shelf-life is important, so for us this was a disappointment.There was another buyer that had a similar review with experation dates around the same time so it could be that it was just this henna batch with the problem.This review doesn't reflect the actual henna and it's performance as we did not use the powder and the product was returned before opening. I was really impressed with the strength of this product, and actually found the process a lot easier than the previous henna I had purchased at Lush. There is no melting involved, and doesn't have to be used right away (in fact letting the mixture sit to oxidize is recommended). The color is also very powerful (even after mixing with black tea) and I could see some highlights in my very dark (almost black) hair. On a side note, the mixture has not stained any of my pans/bowls as of yet.How I used the powder: mixed powder with black tea (to darken the red) and a squirt of lemon juice (to help the oxidation process) and let sit overnight or least six hours. The mixture will look like brown pudding when ready. I covered my ears, hairline with vaseline or balm to prevent staining and applied mixture goop to hair, then covered with a throwaway shower cap for 4 hours. I then rinsed out the mixture leaning over the tub (to prevent staining body) with a handheld shower head before showering (washing hair twice).The smell is strong and Earthy but not necessarily horrible, and will fade with each wash. The color payoff per powder amount makes it a great value, and better than previous products I've used. Read more

I was a little worried when I ordered this, but I am so glad I did! When I opened the package, the color was the right shade of green. There were no mystery chunks and the smell was as it was supposed to be. I did try something different this time. (Not a clue what possessed me to do this!) I slapped it on my hair right after mixing it together! I was planning to let it sit overnight and put it on in the morning but, for whatever reason, I just started smearing. (Maybe I forgot I was doing Henna and not Indigo?) Well, I decided to continue on and wrapped my head in saran wrap, then a plastic bag and, lastly, a towel, then it was off to bed. (I felt like such a rebel, putting the henna on without waiting for dye release!)When I woke up, I wasn't sure what to expect, so I avoided any mirrors until I had consumed a sufficient amount of caffeine, giving it a total of close to 9 .5 hours on my hair. When i removed the towel, I was pleased to see that it had turned the expected reddish-brown color. Apparently, dye release comes much quicker when it's locked up in the cling wrap sauna on my head! My hair was a nice dark, coppery orange, which developed into a gorgeous deep chestnut red! There it was 11 am, when I'd normally just be starting to put the henna on and wasting most of the day with my head wrapped up and I was ready to go out and enjoy my Saturday! Read more

*edit*. I wanted to come back and edit my review because I mentioned the itching I had from using previous henna brands. I did not itch at all using this brand and I have touched up my roots two times since my original review. I am very pleased!I have used many different kinds of henna before and wanted to try this because the price is right. Well this is the only henna I will ever use again. you get so much for the price. Iwas very soft and fine. It mixed easily although I did have clumps. It wasn't an issue when I applied to my hair. I am 99% grey. Although I can dye my hair and the grey always takes my hair is a little dry/coarse. Not only did this turn out to be a beautiful light copper my hair also was not dry and brittle and tangled as it has been in the past with other brands. The mixture rinsed right out, very easily and my hair was soft. The ends stayed a little dry. But they always are. Over the next couple days if I notice itching I will come back and update this review. With every other brand I have used, my scalp itched so much.
