My 2 year old son really likes this microphone. I will say the only part of this product that is made of wood is the bottom base part, and the part where the "button" is. The red and blue parts, and the "button" itself is made of plastic. I don't really have a problem with it being mostly plastic, I feel like if this were made from wood it would be quite heavy. My biggest complaint is that the "button" doesn't do anything. It's literally just there for decoration, and it seems to frustrate my son that he can't push the button. The microphone we received didn’t seem to do anything. The microphone was likely damaged during shipping.Note: I ONLY did the following because it did not do ANYTHING. Upon removing the screw at the base of the microphone and the wooden base itself, I could see the spring on the inside was not attached at the bottom. There is a square shaped hole at the base of the red plastic part that allows you to see inside. From there you can see a small plastic “bar” that the spring should be attached to. I was able to take a piece of wire bent into a hook around the bottom of the spring, pull it through the square hole, bend the bottom of the spring more, and attach it to the “bar” thus making the spring inside this device tight. Once this was completed the microphone worked as intended. It still only sounds like an echo but that’s all I anticipated. Hope this helps others who may have received a similarly defective item. The quality of the construction is solid but the amplification is very poor. I bought this one for my grandson because he enjoyed singing into the one I have, which is from the dollar store, decided to buy this one for the durability but doesn’t hold his interest since he can’t hear his voice. I bought this because I love Hape and I didn't want to buy another plastic toy. The photograph clearly shows a wood grain for the red body portion and looks like only the blue top is plastic. Nope! The red section is plastic with only the "button" and cap on the bottom being made of wood. The echo is not quite as good as a Magic Mic and I paid 4 times as much, (unless you can find them at the dollar store in which I paid 20x as much). I had to search for awhile find a basic microphone that didn’t include all the “bells and whistles”. It does echo very quietly but my toddler was still able to hear himself. To me that’s perfect! If you’re looking a basic toy that is just loud enough this is it! Read more

As others have stated in their reviews, the echo on this microphone is very quiet. I've found that only the person holding it will be able to hear the echo inside the microphone (unless you scream really loud). This made it a little hard to show my 1 year old daughter how it works, since my echo wasn't very apparent when she wasn't holding the microphone.Aside from the quiet echo, the colors are bright and the microphone itself is sturdy, but it's a little on the heavy side. She's had more fun throwing it on the floor than talking into it, because it makes a louder clang when it hits the floor.If you're considering this for a toddler (1-4 years), there may be more engaging options that amplify the echo more.
