I have a hard time getting the powder to come out from the sponge. It does eventually but its not enough to actually make a difference if you're hoping to disguise your outgrow.When I use it to camouflage the grey roots my ma has down her center part, I take off the cap with the sponge attached & carefully dip a fluffy cosmetic brush in the powder. Before removing the brush completely, I tap it gently on the side of the container to get the excess off. Then i apply it directly to her scalp & roots.It kinda reminds me of Bare Minerals powder foundation because this product "melts" into your hair & skin making it look VERY natural & undetectable just like Bare Minerals makeup does.This product is especially good for camouflaging what I refer to as "parking spaces".  Those are the areas of the hairline just above your temples that in often recede over time, regardless of your gender. Because this powder melts into your skin so beautifully, it's an ideal choice for inconspicuously filling in those spaces.  This is where using the sponge applicator really works well.And if you've ever used dry shampoo in a tinted shade (e.g. brown),  you know how unnatural & stiff that looks.  You end up with what looks like a colored dull looking "web" when you use it on your scalp and/or the top of your head. That is not the case with this product. Its not shiny nor does it have a sheen or shimmer but somehow, it's not dull or powdery looking once applied...which sounds like an oxymoron considering this IS a powder. The only caveat, & it's has nothing to do with quality or performance, is that should you spill even a little bit of this powder on a porous surface, it takes forever to get off. That is if you're lucky enough to get it off completely. This goes for your face as well. Granted, you  won't need to use a magic eraser on your forehead or anything but you will look like you just came from church on Ash Wednesday til you get a chance to give your face a good washing.I have no complaints about the performance of this product.  The sponge may not be ideal for covering grays at the root but that's on me, not a reflection of the product's quality or abilities. I hope my humble opinion helps you in some way.Thank you for reading. I am pleasantly surprised by how well this works. I have tried a few, and this is on par with others. I have dark brown hair with some gray (well, I recently colored it for first time), and I have some thin areas that bother me. I am not in love with the applicator. Be sure to twist off the cap, pull out the internal cover, place sponge applicator back on, then proceed to shake it so the powder disperses into the applicator. This can be a little tricky, but it does eventually work. The part that I dont love it that the shaker inside may not allow enough powder out at once, and it is hard to tell if the shaker part is open or not. That being said, it is just as easy to tap some out onto a towel. Dont need much!I smooshed it into my hair and scalp. I can see the powder sticking to the hair and my skin. I dabbed some on my hand to see how well the powder sticks to the skin, and sure enough I still have a stain a couple hours later.I am not sure yet how it does with sweat.I have a very high end pricy brush on product that serves the same purpose, and I fine this $9.99 product to be easier and quicker to use. Even with the odd applicator. I think it is worth the try.3.5/4 stars for now as I really need to see how it does with sweat. Hoping to avoid a stream of brown down my face :) I'll update later. I greatly appreciate root touch-up products between coloring as they can prolong coloring quickly and without much effort. I have tried root sprays but they often leave me with an actual headache although I like the results. This root powder covers my hair well but does take a fair amount of effort to ensure it does not get past my hairline or in a part. Dark brown is a medium warm brown. The large top makes it harder to have precision. It took a lot of tapping to initially get the powder to come out of the top sponge. Once it started to come out, it lets out more powder. So far, I like the powder for root coverage.Suggestions for improvement--The sponge top applicator is not as easy as I would like to use. It can get past my hairline and into my part. I used a product similar to this years ago with not so great results, the first product I used, I guess was about 5 years ago, and it would actually leak down your face if you started to sweat. This product does not do that, it stays in place, it covers those areas where you might be thinning on the top of the head and gives you a sense of self-confidence when in public. Definitely would recommend. Comes in just a very small container, you could actually even carry it with you if you felt comfortable (or the need )doing so. Doesn't cover grey totally, but did help a little to make my cow kick part area look fuller. I have very thin hair and my grey sometimes make me look like I have balding going on. I prefer to go longer periods of time between coloring so I don't damage my hair. This hair powder is okay. I think the spray versions would be easier to apply. Took about 30 pats to get any coverage with the foam head. The color was a good match though for my dark brown hair. Read more

I've tried several different brands of this type of product with varying degrees of success. Number one is that this isn't for somebody with big hair loss but more for a slightly receding hairline who would like it to look slightly less so. While this one works ok it's the messiest brand that I've tried. First time was such a mess that I had to rewash my my hair to get it our. It works ok but it's just too difficult to use easily.
