This is a category called a short chained fatty acid, and recently I learned about the gut microbiome and personally have even added this to my own gut microbiome intellectual property I call YanOrganismism. I got my first bout of Diverticulitis about a month ago. Even though I was fasting for 3 days it was not taking care of the pain/infection. I was put on two harsh antibiotics which I absolutely despise!! ;( I have a few autoimmune conditions and so I flare when I take antibiotics and I can just feel the candida in my system going crazy. Not to mention all the additional bad side effects. I read online that prescription sodium butyrate enemas helped people with UC, Crohns, and Diverticulitis. I read another article that someone was doing at home enemas with this product as a DYI, and it seemed to help her with her UC.I figured I would give it a go too. I really have nothing to lose as I felt like I would be stuck with taking antibiotics for the rest of my life if I didn't get this under control.(Note: I already do enema's with chlorophyll and aloe juice to soothe my colon, so I am no stranger to enemas. I also do coffee enemas and those are fabulous to do when your colon isn't inflamed.)I put two capsules in my alkaline enema water. The next day it seemed the area of my colon was not as inflamed and my stool later that morning was well formed.I can tell it is helping. I pray to God it keeps getting better!Yes it stinks, but at this point I would eat a couch if someone told me it would heal me.Also, chlorophyll is an internal deodorizer. I don't notice any aroma when I sweat or anything so you might want to consider that if you start taking these capsules and feel like you smell. This review is an FYI. If you look on the label butyrate and sodium are listed separately. Sodium butyrate is a compound of sodium and butyrate contained in one molecule. The sodium and butyrate in this product are separate entities and is not really sodium butyrate. I don't know how this would affect its performance. But this product is certainly not the sodium butyrate used in clinical trials.I marked this with few stars in my review simply because of this intentional mislabeling. It may work all the same as sodium butyrate or it may work in some other fashion. But there are no clinical trials to know what exactly it will do. I bought Butyrate when I came across a research note entitled:"Butyrate Improves Insulin Sensitivity and Increases Energy Expenditure in Mice"The research showed that when sodium butyrate was added to mice food those mice did not become insulin insensitive or obese even though fed a high fat diet. The control mice who did not get butyrate did. It's too early to tell if it is having that effect on me. But I did experience a little weight loss. It's too soon to know if it will continue.There were other seeming effects including improved sleep. I ran out and the effects stopped.When I was a young child I was so skinny that my parents were concerned that they would be accused of neglect. Then mysteriously I began gaining weight at about age 7 or 8. Eventually despite trying just about every diet that comes along, walking hundreds of miles on tracks and treadmills and lifting thousands of pounds of weights, I am morbidly obese. It occurred to me recently that the smell of the butyrate in these capsules is the same smell I remember from my childhood whenever I vomited. I have not smelled that smell for decades. I have to conclude that at an early, skinny age, there was a lot of butyrate in my system which is not there now. I don't know why that is. I purchased these direct from the manufacturer through fear they might not be the real deal, the arrived with a tag to lid warning of smell indicating this meant they were the genuine thing, I was quite prepared for this and a little concerned that there was no strong or even mild smell...I have a very sensitive sense of smell so this was bizarre and made me question did they have enough of the active ingredients in them, i reassured myself they were direct fro BioBody, however for me, after today completing the bottle I didn't note any difference, I have had half a bowel removed and prior many IBS, slow digestion, theres been many things that have made a significant improvement but these didn't do anything Read more

The smell when I open them was so bad my house and body smell like something had died 🤮🤢I put the pills in the bin ,scrub the the counter top ,wash my clothes I was wearing had a shower and after all that my room mate came home and kept asking me if I had been vomiting because the whole house smelled like vomit.
