Guerlain does it again ! This is a very nice fragrance that at the beginning gives me a Pure Havane by Mugler vibe. Then it turns on my skin to a cherry, vanilla , with Tonka bean scent. This is a very inoffensive scent , that will garnish complements. On my skin I do four sprays and that's good enough for me. I love this stuff! So the top tier (first smell when spraying) you get a very heavy vanilla smell, that quickly settles and it leaves you with a very nice deep and heavy cherry scent with a hint of vanilla. I was worried that the cherry would make this not a very masculine smell but I could not be any more wrong! I was also concerned that with a heavy cherry scent that this would not be a good summer smell but I was wrong there as well! Over all i think this is a very solid cologne and would recommend it. At first when I first tested this on my arm, I didn’t like it so much. The alcohol overpowers for the first 20 minutes of the scents life on either skin or clothes. When I actually smelled the fragrance, I fell in love. Best way to describe it is a sweet and smoky vanilla fragrance with a heavy dose of cherry. But the smoke in this fragrance is not like a Gaiac wood or an oud. It’s more smooth like a cedar wood with incense, it’s so subtle yet it does the job. I haven’t done a test yet because I bought a winter time fragrance in the spring; how interesting! But I can tell this will be a new signature winter fragrance of mine. By the way if you are a fan of Aqua Di Gio Profumo or anything from aqua di gio or Parfums de Marly Layton, give this one a go for sure. This scent lasts about 7 hours on skin and roughly 10 hours on clothes. Solid fragrance for around the $60 range coming from a $142 and $230 price point. I bought this as a blind buy, as I have with many of my scents, as of late, as long as they do not exceed the $40 range. The combination of the recorded notes consisting mainly of cherry and almond, along with the raving reviews, captivated my imagination and compelled me to blind buy this at a higher price than usual. While the beauty and elegance of this scent are undeniable, my expectations were not fully met. It's refinement and depth, enriched with a sweetness, without being overbearing, is gorgeous. This has a mature, sophisticated smell that would be prime for the eveming time, on a gent in his 30's ,on up. While this will make a great Fall/ Winter scent, any time of year could work. Personallly, it's just the lack of performance on my skin, especially in comparison to that reported of by others that was my main disappointment.Longevity- 4-5 hours (It became a skin scent in less than 3)Projection- A foot or less, within the first hourPerformance- 7/10 (so far)I was expecting more out of this scent for the price, but, despite that, I am also not disappointed I purchased this. I've bought the EDT before, thought I had purchased it again. I was very pleasantly surprised by the EDP.First thing I noticed with the EDP was the longevity and projection. With the EDT the projection tapers off to skin level in about 3 hours. The dry down was noticeably more complex and the projection was very well beyond skin level 8 hours after application. All in all the experience was a significant improvement over the already wonderful EDT. For the price and quality L'Homme Ideal EDP is an outstanding purchase.Recommended usage: 1 spray to the chest, 1 spray to the wrist, rub wrists together and rub wrists to neck. Read more
